Dispatcher - Full Time - Varied Shifts
About The Position
The Dispatcher schedules and dispatches emergency and non-emergency ambulance, wheelchair, ambulatory, and taxi transportation requests using a computer-aided dispatching (CAD) application. Requests are received by telephone, fax, and web-based applications. The Dispatcher enters pertinent information into CAD; registers patients; checks insurance eligibility; determines the required service level and confirms medical necessity; initiates insurance authorization; collects electronic payments; and prepares completed run reports for billing. The role assigns trips to active units, monitors progress, communicates by two-way radio, direct connect, pagers, and telephone, and deploys ambulance and wheelchair vans throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to apply critical thinking to problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Excellent customer service, clerical, computer, and data entry skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Edge, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to accurately type at least 30–35 words per minute.
Nice To Haves
- Current or previous state EMS certification.
