About The Position

The Dispatcher position involves performing dispatching and clerical support duties for the transportation department. This role requires operating communication equipment, coordinating with employees and external organizations, maintaining records, and providing general office support to ensure efficient operations and timely services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law.
  • One year radio dispatching experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Pass a driver's records check.
  • 1 year experience in operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic record keeping techniques.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of operation of a two-way radio and standard office machines.
  • Knowledge of telephone techniques and etiquette.
  • Ability to perform dispatching and clerical support duties.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
  • Ability to learn and apply applicable department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to type at an acceptable rate of speed.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to maintain routine records.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid KY Commercial Class B driver’s license including passenger endorsement is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate two-way radio base stations and paging systems.
  • Record radio communications.
  • Communicate with department employees, dispatching them to needed locations for routine requests and emergency situations.
  • Monitor special equipment and maintain appropriate records.
  • Maintain assigned files and records, receiving and processing information according to established guidelines.
  • Communicate with outside organizations, businesses, government agencies, local police, and others as appropriate.
  • Communicate with Board members as necessary.
  • Communicate with parents, supervisors, school administrators, and department employees, receiving requests, questions, concerns, and suggestions.
  • Provide routine information and assistance or route inquiries to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of routes and locations to ensure timely services and accurate information.
  • Perform a variety of clerical support duties, including typing correspondence and memos.
  • Compile data from clearly defined sources and prepare reports.
  • Answer telephone, route calls, or take messages.
  • Prepare and process requisitions.
  • Distribute mail.
  • Operate standard office machines.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
