About The Position

Alaska Marine Trucking provides and manages local freight distribution services in Alaska which includes loading, unloading, warehousing, pickup and delivery. Alaska Marine Trucking works closely with Alaska Marine Lines in coastal communities throughout Southeast, Central, and Western Alaska. We currently have an opening for a Dispatcher in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a Full Time position which offers family friendly benefits, a competitive pay package and professional growth.

Requirements

Ability to obtain valid DOT medical card.
Ability to obtain FHWA Inspector Qualification Certification (per 49 CFR § 396.19) and Brake Inspector Qualification Certification (per 49 CFR § 396.25).
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear while communicating with customers, drivers and co-workers during the normal course of daily activities.
Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch while inspecting vehicles and other equipment.
Regularly required to use hands, arms and fingers to perform the normal duties of the job such as entering computer data, dial, manipulate objects, tools, or operate controls.
Must be able to use eyes, hands and fingers to keyboard, operate phones, fax, radios, and other office machinery.
Regularly required to hear, speak, and listen while communicating with telephones, radios and in person with customers and coworkers.
Must possess close, distance, peripheral and depth perception.
May occasionally be required to move or lift up to 75 pounds objects.
Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel or crouch around equipment and facilities.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus during the normal course of the job.

Nice To Haves

A minimum of three years related experience in the transportation industry is preferred.
Alaska Commercial Driving License, Class A, with air brake endorsement and hazardous materials endorsement recommended or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

Directs and coordinates full load truck dispatch activities by efficiently coordinating the pick-up and delivery of freight between Company and customer facilities.
Directs and coordinates all aspects of day-to-day full load operations to obtain optimum use of equipment, facilities, and personnel.
Schedules and routes drivers of Company trucks in order to meet freight delivery and pick-up needs of commercial as well as personal customers.
Maintains telephone and/or radio contact with Company drivers using Compass to send tasks and manage drivers.
Directs scheduling of shipments and notifies concerned departments and customers of arrival and delivery times and/or dates.
Assists Human Resources/Safety department in ensuring operational and administrative compliance with Department of Transportation, Department of Labor, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
Daily reviews Company driver Hours of Service, freight delivery and pick-up times, route optimization, and fuel idling records with the use of computerized programs.
Assists in terminal operations and equipment control as required.
