About The Position

Tooele County is accepting applications for a Dispatcher with the Tooele County Sheriff's Department. Applicants currently employed as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher can receive a lateral transfer pay. Please attach all diplomas and certifications you may have acquired for verification. Dispatchers are the primary answering point for all 911 and non-emergency phone calls from within Tooele County. The Communications Center operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with two separate shifts. Dispatchers must be able to work odd hours and be on-call on short notice.

Requirements

• Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Demonstrate the ability to type 30 words a minute with a high degree of accuracy.
• Pass a Dispatcher/Call-taker pre-employment multi-tasking test.
• Satisfactorily complete one (1) year probation.
• Minimum of two (2) years of work experience (Dispatcher I).
• Minimum of two (2) years of work experience as a Dispatcher (Dispatcher II).
• Currently employed as a Utah 9-1-1 Center Dispatcher (Dispatcher II).
• Minimum of two (2) certifications (Dispatcher II).
• Minimum of five (5) years' work experience (Dispatcher III).
• Completed Utah Peace Officers Standard and Training (POST) Instructor Development certification (Dispatcher III).
• Certified as a Communications Training Officer (CTO) or certified as a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Instructor (Dispatcher III).
• Successfully pass all phases of the selection process, a comprehensive background investigation, and drug test.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary answering point for all 911 and non-emergency phone calls from within Tooele County.
• Work odd hours and be on-call on short notice.
• Accept additional duty assignments as required (Dispatcher II and III).
• Train new hires as needed (Dispatcher III).
• Instruct courses as needed (Dispatcher III).
