About The Position

The Dispatcher plays a key role in coordinating and managing the movement of freight across various terminal locations. This position is responsible for scheduling and dispatching linehaul drivers, ensuring timely, efficient, and safe transportation of goods. The Dispatcher will collaborate closely with drivers, and other operations personnel to maintain optimal routes, ensure compliance with company policies, and provide exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • Experience on Erb systems including AS400.
  • Good keyboarding skills and experience using computers including MS Office applications required.
  • Must have attention to detail and accuracy under pressure to meet deadlines within a busy environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and make effective decisions.
  • Strong time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a dispatcher role considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute load assignments to Linehaul Drivers.
  • Move/Monitor drivers within computer dispatch system.
  • Collaborate with Terminal Operations to ensure timely departures of freight.
  • Assess and prioritize freight movement to meet deadlines and operational goals.
  • Assist the Local Operations team with manifesting loads accurately and efficiently.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize departure times and improve load factors, and communicate these insights to the Linehaul dispatch team.
  • Coordinate efforts with the dock, data entry teams, drivers, and other dispatch groups to manage load reductions and arrange for outside power when necessary.
  • Monitor scheduled departures and driver wait times, providing regular reports on performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Monitor Cargo Watch and alert drivers/arrange service etc for mechanical breakdowns.
  • Communicate load information to drivers, receive calls and respond to drivers dispatch messages.
  • Receive emails and accept loads as required.
  • Must be capable of entering loads in Erb system if Customer Service is not available.
  • Responsible to update client websites as required.
  • Responsible to understand, monitor and communicate delays/issues according to the established SOP’s per client requirements.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism when interacting with drivers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Responsible to adjust driver assignments when capacity has changed in conjunction with other dispatch groups.
  • Responsible for end of shift communication to ensure a smooth cross-over.
  • Responsible to keep manager informed regarding progression of business and complete reports requested from manager.
  • All other duties as required.
