About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Dispatcher Senior at the Division II Headquarters in Culpeper, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Functioning as lead worker in the communications center to provide assistance to law enforcement and emergency personnel, the public, and the media. Providing support, guidance, and training to other dispatchers within the communications center to help them perform their duties effectively and proficiently. Operating within a specific geographic area by sending and receiving information and sending emergency assistance or service equipment to assist law enforcement personnel or the public. Operating a variety of equipment. Maintaining logs and records. Accessing information through various systems/databases including CAD, VCIN, NCIC, NLETS. May work rotating shifts and is considered essential personnel.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of geographical area and locations of safety and emergency personnel and equipment within the area.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to emergency communications to include radio codes.
  • Knowledge of communications equipment and procedures.
  • Skill in keyboarding to include Microsoft software applications.
  • Ability to work in areas of high stress and be able to multitask.
  • Ability to handle complaints/compliments and direct them to the appropriate First Sergeant or Sergeant.
  • Ability to lead staff.
  • Ability to provide training and formal instruction.
  • Ability to type, speak and exercise judgment under stress.
  • Ability to ensure safety guidelines and regulations are followed during emergency situations.
  • Ability to prepare reports.
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
