About The Position

The Dispatch Supervisor is a member of the Department of Campus Police and reports to the Assistant Chief of Operational Support. The Dispatch Supervisor manages the Campus Police Dispatch Center and includes management oversight of a team of approximately 8-12 dispatchers that work 24/7 to support The Southern Baptist Seminary and Boyce College campus. The Dispatch Supervisor serves as the primary dispatcher for the weekday first shift. They monitor live feeds from CCTV cameras, fire alarm systems, security systems, and assists with the processing of on average 500 “calls for assistance” per month. They are also responsible for determining the nature and severity of inbound calls for assistance and take appropriate remedial action, including dispatching campus police officers to assist, contacting Metro Louisville services as needed, providing verbal directions, emergency instruction, etc.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some experience in dealing with the public
  • Demonstrable excellent “customer service” skills
  • Must be computer literate
  • Five years of service as a dispatcher in a municipal or private sector environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college or technical school education
  • Graduates of the Kentucky Dept. of Criminal Justice Training's Public Safety Dispatch Academy or similar state dispatcher academies.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of approximately 8-12 dispatchers, including performance review, training, scheduling, and approving payroll
  • Receives calls for service concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance and evaluates information received or observed, prioritizes situations and dispatches appropriate assistance
  • Communicates accurately and concisely with involved members of the campus police staff, outside agencies, members of the Seminary community, and the public at large as may be needed
  • Monitors campus surveillance system and dispatches campus police officer(s) in response to viewed situations
  • Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all university buildings
  • Coordinates departmental paging in the event of a campus emergency
  • Performs various clerical duties including completing the electronic dispatch log
  • Performs receptionist duties; responds to questions from walk-in and telephone traffic
  • Functions as the campus information representative after normal daily business hours and on weekends, handling all phone calls and walk-in contacts
  • Maintains accurate up-to-date logs of dispatch activity and “lost/found” property
  • Utilizes restricted access to Jenzabar in performance of duties; maintains security/confidentiality of records and information, etc. to which exposed
  • Maintains current working knowledge of departmental regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
