About The Position

This role is responsible for serving and maintaining the dining room, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and providing general support to the kitchen operations. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army, upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community.

Requirements

  • Some high school completion.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR and AED or willingness to obtain.
  • Up to 3 months of related experience.
  • An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Good oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Demonstrated patience, understanding, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.

Responsibilities

  • Set up dining room and serve meals.
  • Maintain dining room tables and chairs in a clean and tidy condition at all times.
  • Sweep and wash all floors in kitchen, stockroom, kitchen washroom, walk-in fridge and dining room.
  • Clean all assigned kitchen areas such as windows, baseboards, tables, chairs, walls, floors, kitchen, equipment, stoves, fryers, ovens and washrooms and associated storage areas daily.
  • Wash, dry, and store all kitchen and food preparation dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
  • Restock washroom supplies and cleaning supplies daily.
  • Apply proper lifting and carrying techniques for heavy items to avoid physical strain or injury.
  • Complete the established daily assigned routine tasks.
  • May assist in preparation of simple meals and drinks.
  • Maintain the highest level of hygiene and cleanliness while performing all duties.
  • Adhere to safe food handling procedures, including proper storage, preparation, and cooking methods to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illnesses.
  • Operate all kitchen equipment safely and responsibly, adhering to proper usage guidelines to prevent accidents.
  • Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner, reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Assist with receiving and stocking food and kitchen supply orders.
  • Safe usage and maintenance of food service facilities and equipment.
