About The Position

The Kitchen Support/Dishwasher is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining room, and storage areas, including washing all dishes/pots/pans according to Public Health Standards. This role involves maintaining sanitation and proper health and safety standards of hygiene and safe handling of foods. The position requires working cooperatively with staff from various Centre of Hope departments and participating in regular staff meetings. The role also involves working in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. The incumbent must be able to lift/move objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance, and perform tasks requiring reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, while working in a standing position for long periods of time. Requirements

  • Completed a minimum of Grade 10.
  • Good knowledge of nutrition and safe food handling certification is required.
  • Up to 3 months of prior related experience, including experience operating an industrial dishwasher.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on the condition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and will be required to provide proof of full vaccination, prior to their employment start date. The requirement to be fully vaccinated is subject to provincial/territorial human rights legislation. If the candidate is unable to vaccinate for a reason protected by the Human Rights Code, a request for accommodation can be submitted and written proof satisfactory to TSA will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred.
  • Experience in a residential facility is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Clean all dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots, and pans, in accordance with Public Health standards.
  • Perform cleaning duties in the dining room areas after each meal and remove garbage and place in appropriate collection bin.
  • Assist on-duty cook(s) as required.
  • Advise Support Services Manager when cleaning supplies are needed.
  • Follow work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
  • Ensure kitchen floor and dishwashing area are cleaned as per policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all tasks are completed, and all work areas are clean prior to completion of shift.
  • Make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the Support Services Manager.
  • Work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with security, identifying any safety and security needs.
  • Use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
  • Report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness.
  • Follow through on all safety and security procedures (including fire) as outlined in the policy and procedures manual.
  • Maintain sanitation and proper health, and safety standards of hygiene and safe handling of foods while performing duties.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.
  • Late shift kitchen staff must ensure that doors are locked, and all electrical appliances and lights are turned off at end of shift; kitchen keys are to be returned to Front Desk at the end of the shift and signed back in.
