About The Position

H2M is seeking a Civil Discipline Engineer to join their team. This role involves the design and coordination of multidiscipline projects, from initial feasibility studies through regulatory approvals and full permitting for site development projects. The engineer will be responsible for developing site layouts, grading, storm drainage, roadway design, water and sewer infrastructure, and erosion/sediment control. This position requires preparing hydrology and hydraulic calculations, understanding NYSDEC storm water drainage and SWPPP requirements, and performing project administration tasks such as report writing, proposal preparation, cost tracking, and progress reporting. The role also includes preparing engineer's opinions of probable costs, specifications for public bids, and coordinating with other internal departments. Building and maintaining client relationships is a key aspect, as is working both independently and collaboratively within project teams to ensure on-time, on-budget, high-quality technical delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 15+ years design experience with a specific focus on site development projects
  • Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills, Autoturn, Excel, and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices of related technical areas.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently or within project teams.
  • Team-spirited, focused and able to make independent decisions.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • PE required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and coordination of work on multidiscipline projects ranging from due diligence/site feasibility studies, site engineering, through regulatory approvals and full permitting for full range of site development projects.
  • Develop site layout and design, including site grading and storm drainage, roadway design, water and sewer infrastructure, erosion and sediment control.
  • Prepare hydrology and hydraulic calculations and be knowledgeable of NYSDEC storm water drainage and SWPPP requirements.
  • Perform project administration including writing reports, gathering information, writing proposals & correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports.
  • Prepare engineer's opinion of probable costs for designed projects and specifications for public bids.
  • Coordinate with other engineering and architectural departments within the firm.
  • Relationship building and communication directly with clients in support and coordination of all project activities.
  • Working both independently and as a team with other professionals and technicians dependent on project/task.
  • Responsible for the on-time, on budget, high quality technical delivery of all project requirements.
