About The Position

Join our dynamic team as a Disability Employment Counsellor, where you’ll play a crucial role in guiding participants through personalized assessments, tailored action plans, and essential job readiness skills. If you’re ready to make a real impact in the lives of others while collaborating with employers and fostering inclusive workplaces, we want to hear from you! Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will be conducting intake assessments to determine clients' needs and facilitate one-on-one employment counselling using career assessment tools. You'll evaluate each participant's skills, interests, and career goals, identifying barriers and making referrals to additional support services as needed. You will develop and refine personalized action plans, prepare participants for job marketing (including resumes and interview prep), and assist with job search strategies. Additionally, you'll identify job leads, support clients in accessing the hidden job market, and collaborate with employers to create employment opportunities.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary certificate, degree, or diploma in Client Services for Persons with Disabilities, or a comparable blend of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities in employment settings
  • Experience conducting Disability-Related Needs Assessments (DRENAs)
  • Experience interpreting specialized assessments
  • Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience identifying assistive technology solutions
  • Valid BC driver’s license
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Strong administrative and technical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Adept at meeting deadlines and thriving under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, colleagues, and partners
  • Knowledge of career assessment tools and employment counseling techniques
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in the job market
  • Capable of developing and implementing tailored action plans to address individual client needs
  • Undergo a Police Information Check (PIC)
  • Undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice

  • Designations such as Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP)
  • Designations such as Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP)
