About The Position

The Disability Coordinator will play a vital role within the plant location for disability topics. This individual will establish and manage a transitional work program for employees with temporary work restrictions, assist in communication flow to third party administrator related to disability leave requests and workers compensation events and implement changes/improvements to reduce injuries on the shop floor. The Disability Coordinator will spend the majority of their time on the shop floor working with employees, management, safety and location medical personnel. In addition, they will work with third party administrators and case manager on medical leave issues including FMLA, short term disability, long term disability and worker’s compensation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with one year disability/workers comp related experience OR an Associate’s degree with 2 years disability/workers comp related experience OR 4 years of Daimler disability/workers comp experience required.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations associated with disability, workers compensation and FMLA is required.
  • Prioritization and problem solving skills are required.
  • Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for interacting with employees, management, medical professionals, third party administrators, case managers, location safety engineer and Union Representatives (where applicable) are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Previous Healthcare Administration experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accuracy in preparation and maintenance of leave request documents, data tracking and analysis.
  • Provide timely and accurate responses to management concerning day-to-day issues and activities.
  • Maintain regular contact with employee while out on leave.
  • Communicate with Sedgwick and location medical personnel regarding employee restrictions and timeframe of restrictions.
  • Based upon communication/input from medical professionals, work with the employee, safety engineer and supervisor on potential transitional work program/worker’s compensation accommodation opportunities.
  • Communicate with Sedgwick and location medical regarding employee compliance with restrictions and timing of restrictions as necessary.
  • Conduct training for managers, supervisors, and key HR staff to ensure they are knowledgeable about leave issues.
  • Assist management with leave of absence events and provide guidance within established policy and legal guidelines.
  • Consult with ERS/KAM/LRS, HR or Operations Managers regarding LOA requests as appropriate.
  • Assist location payroll to prevent over- and under-payments and ensures that all leave-accruing employees receive, use, and are paid for their leave benefits in accordance with applicable Federal or State laws and regulations.
  • Administer the Transitional Work Program (TWP) in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Work with safety engineer and supervisor to identify the work tasks the employee performed prior to leave of absence using job analysis and physical demands job description to assess availability of a position to meet the employee’s functional capacity and medical restrictions.
  • Serve as a liaison between the location, medical professionals, supervisor, case manager, third party administrator, employee and union representatives (if applicable).
  • Assist management in assessing the availability of a position(s) to meet the employee’s functional capacity and medical restrictions
  • Provide recommendations to management regarding program extensions, modifications, or termination of the program.
  • Produce weekly and/or monthly reports to update management on status of active FMLA, STD and LTD claims.
  • Act as point of contact with medical on receipt of restrictions and availability of restricted work opportunities in the plant.
  • Interface with medical, supervisor, safety engineer, and Sedgwick for initial investigation of claim as well as return to work placement, medical restriction compliance, Sedgwick claim management, etc.
  • Access and use the Via One system to review and audit claim status.
  • Monitor employee compliance with medical restrictions and communication with Sedgwick or local medical regarding restrictions.
  • Assist safety engineer and supervisor in conducting accident investigation (ensure pictures are taken, witnesses are interviewed, documentation is recorded and forwarded to Sedgwick).
  • Maintain activity log of cases reviewed and status of each.
  • Produce weekly and/or monthly reports to update management on status of current workers’ compensation claims.
  • Interact with Sedgwick and monitor their responsiveness and follow-up.
  • Identify malingering claims.
  • Interface with location Controller for cost per truck/chassis/engine/EQU in order to track KPIs.
  • Meet with employee on workers’ compensation at a regular interval to ensure progress and compliance.
  • Monitor status of restrictions (permanent and temporary) to assess whether updates are required.
  • Assist location safety engineer and ergonomist (if applicable) in identification of equipment or other tools to reduce injury rates.
