About The Position

This is a position that is very rewarding in training and mentoring at risk youth. Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 60 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment.

Requirements

  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Two to three years related work experience preferred.
  • State teaching certification or state licensure in Special Education preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The Disability Coordinator reports to the Education and Training Director and is a salaried, exempt position.
  • The Disability Coordinator plans, organizes, and implements the Center Disability Student program.
  • The Disability Coordinator is responsible for the Case Management of all Cognitive disabilities from: folder review; collection of all needed documents; IDT Team; review of TABE testing; develops academic and career technical training plans to support students’ goals and success.
  • Trains all staff on learning support/disabilities and ensures students are receiving appropriate accommodations in education, testing and training settings.
  • Participates in initial screening of disabled students, assesses students’ needs and ability to benefit from the Job Corps Program and coordinates living quarters prior to student’s arrival. Makes pre-arrival contact with new disabled students to ensure all requirements are met prior to their arrival.
  • Performs vocational assessments of all students needing learning support.
  • Develops contacts with state and community agencies representing the disabled and acts as liaison between these agencies and the Center.
  • Works closely with the Vocational Rehabilitation Agency to ensure that applicants have been formally assessed by the agency. Ensures that eligible students are signed up with Voc Rehab and SSI within their first month in the Program.
  • Develops referrals to and receives reports from Health Services with respect to speech therapy, psychological evaluations and special health problems and provides appropriate follow-up information.
