We currently have an opportunity for a Director - Workforce Absence Management to join our Employee Benefits team in our Pittsburgh, PA office on a Hybrid work schedule. This individual will serve as the subject matter expert in absence and leave management, including but not limited to employer-specific leave policies, FMLA, state-mandated programs, paid leave programs, ADA, short-term disability, and long-term disability programs. As a regional resource, this specialist will support the four East Region HUBs and their respective markets, playing a critical role in new business development, client retention, and overall market differentiation. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise, strong carrier relationships, consultative presence, and the ability to deliver both strategic guidance and hands-on service.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in leave of absence management, disability programs, or related HR compliance consulting
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and municipal leave laws and coordination with employer-sponsored benefits
  • History of “return to work” planning
  • Strong consultative, communication, and presentation skills; confident in client-facing roles
  • Experience working in or with insurance brokerages, carriers, TPAs, or large employers
  • Ability to travel within the East Region for client and team engagement
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in navigating toward successful and sustainable absence management programs via virtual calls and in-person meetings
  • Serve as the lead consultant on leave management programs for key clients and prospects
  • Conduct audits and gap analyses of current leave programs and recommend enhancements
  • Conduct RFP work on a project basis for employers looking to outsource leave programs and support implementation
  • Benchmark leave programs
  • Navigate and interpret federal and state-specific leave laws (e.g., FMLA, NY PFL, NJ TDB/FLI, MA PFML – and more broadly) with a strong understanding of how federally mandated leaves coordinate with multi-layered state law requirements
  • Coordinate leave policies with disability programs, workers’ comp, COBRA, and other benefit lines
  • Review policies and provide/develop templates for client use
  • Support vendor audits on a project basis
  • Participate in discovery calls and finalist meetings and key client presentations to showcase HUB's expertise in leave management
  • Help drive new business by enhancing our value proposition in RFPs and client discussions
  • Collaborate with Producers, Account Executives, and Consultants to win and retain business
  • Educate, train, and present on leave management topics both externally (webinars, roundtables, seminars, etc.) and internally (HUB employees)
  • Develop content for client newsletters, internal training, and market updates
  • Collaborate with HUB’s national Workforce Absence Management practice to drive best practices
  • Maintain strong relationships with leading carriers, TPAs, and technology vendors
  • Support negotiations for optimal program pricing, terms, and service standards
  • Stay current on legislative changes and vendor innovations in the leave space
  • Coordinate with other HUB subject matter experts from around the country
