About The Position

The Director, Web Platform Engineering leads Greystar's web platform team and owns technical direction for greystar.com and the broader Sitecore-based web ecosystem. This role is a leader-doer position for a small but strong team, requiring deep, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI and a solutions-focused approach. The Director will partner with the product lead as a technical peer, translate business priorities into technical strategy, and represent the web platform in enterprise technology planning. They will also invest directly in developing the engineers on their team, work across the global organization, and coordinate with other Data, Digital, and AI (D2AI) teams on broader data and AI capabilities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of web platform or CMS engineering experience, with deep, current, hands-on expertise in Sitecore AI and headless implementations.
  • Strong hands-on background in modern headless frontend architecture and Vercel or similar deployment platforms.
  • Deep experience with search platforms (Coveo, Algolia, Elasticsearch, or similar) is a must. Coveo experience specifically is valued.
  • Proficient with Git and modern CI/CD practices; experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps.
  • 5+ years leading engineering teams, with a genuine, demonstrable track record of mentoring engineers and helping them grow their careers.
  • Experience partnering with a product lead or product manager who owns roadmap direction, in a peer relationship rather than a reporting one.
  • Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to represent the platform to senior technology and business leadership.
  • Deep, hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot, not just awareness of them.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for using AI to accelerate engineering work, with real examples of how you've applied it.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience partnering with marketing teams on content management platforms and operations.
  • Experience on a conversion-focused digital platform (lead generation or e-commerce, not just content/brand).
  • Experience operating a platform across multiple regions (this platform also supports Greystar's European operations).
  • Datadog or equivalent monitoring/observability expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical direction for the web platform, partnering with the product lead to shape priorities and sequencing.
  • Translate business priorities (leads and leases, campaign enablement, SEO, personalization and experimentation) into technical strategy.
  • Represent the web platform in enterprise technology planning, aligning direction with the rest of D2AI and broader Greystar priorities.
  • Stay hands-on: contribute directly and daily to architecture, code review, and development across the platform.
  • Set the technical example for the team, modeling the standard of work and collaborative decision-making.
  • Own architectural decisions for personalization, experimentation, and content delivery on the platform.
  • Guide the team's ongoing development, staying current on the platform's roadmap and capabilities.
  • Guide architecture and strategy for site search and discovery, ensuring relevance and performance.
  • Partner with the marketing team on content management and operations needs.
  • Coordinate with D2AI's data platform and CI teams on how the web platform consumes and exchanges data.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day work, modeling high-leverage, AI-forward practices.
  • Champion automated testing practices.
  • Evaluate and adopt AI-enabled tooling for content operations, personalization, and testing.
  • Coach the team on effective, responsible use of AI in their engineering workflows.
  • Lead, coach, and grow the existing team, providing hands-on technical guidance and architectural thinking.
  • Own performance management, career development, and growth planning for each team member.
  • Hire selectively to complement the team's existing strengths.
  • Document architecture, integrations, and operational knowledge so it lives with the team.
  • Cross-train the team and distribute access and ownership.
  • Own break-fix resolution and production support (L2/L3) for the web platform, ensuring issues are resolved within SLA.
  • Maintain release processes, deployment standards, and on-call practices for the team.
