About The Position

The U.S. Surgical Commercial Capabilities team is responsible for developing the commercial, clinical, and business capabilities required to drive performance across the U.S. Surgical sales organization. Through strategic training, onboarding, product launch readiness, procedural education, sales excellence programs, and capability development initiatives, the team equips field professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to support customer success and business growth. The function collaborates closely with Sales Leadership, Marketing, Medical Education, Global Sales Training, and Commercial Excellence teams to ensure capability strategies align with evolving market needs and organizational priorities. This position is based in Lafayette, Colorado and is designated as a remote role. The individual must be able to travel up to 50% to support field engagements, leadership meetings, training programs, business planning activities, and key commercial initiatives. The Director, U.S. Surgical Commercial Capabilities leads the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of commercial training and capability development programs across the U.S. Surgical business. This leader is responsible for building and advancing the organizational capabilities required to accelerate seller productivity, support commercial growth, enhance customer engagement, and strengthen business performance. The role provides leadership for a team of commercial capability professionals and training leaders while influencing cross-functional stakeholders to deliver impactful and measurable learning solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in commercial training, sales enablement, learning and development, commercial excellence, sales leadership, marketing, or related commercial functions, with 7+ years of people leadership experience; or an advanced degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience leading managers and/or professional teams within a commercial, sales, training, or capability development environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing commercial training, sales enablement, onboarding, or capability-building strategies across large field organizations.
  • Experience managing budgets, organizational priorities, and cross-functional initiatives with measurable business outcomes.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

  • Experience within the medical device, healthcare, life sciences, or highly regulated healthcare industry.
  • Demonstrated success leading commercial capability programs that support product launches, sales force effectiveness, and business transformation initiatives.
  • Experience partnering with sales leadership, marketing, medical education, and commercial excellence organizations to drive performance improvement.
  • Experience implementing learning measurement frameworks and leveraging data to assess capability advancement and business impact.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Adult Learning, Healthcare, or a related discipline.
  • For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the U.S. Surgical Commercial Capabilities organization, including strategy development, operational execution, talent leadership, resource planning, and budget management.
  • Develop and execute commercial capability strategies that support business objectives, product launches, market adoption efforts, and long-term commercial growth.
  • Oversee onboarding and new hire development programs designed to accelerate field readiness and reduce time-to-productivity.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Medical Education, Commercial Excellence, and other cross-functional leaders to identify capability gaps and implement targeted development solutions.
  • Drive excellence in sales effectiveness, clinical competency, procedural knowledge, business acumen, coaching, and customer engagement capabilities across the sales organization.
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers and commercial capability professionals to build organizational strength, engagement, and succession readiness.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators to measure training effectiveness, learner engagement, capability progression, organizational health, and business impact.
  • Collaborate with global and regional capability leaders to align priorities, share best practices, and enhance consistency across commercial capability initiatives where appropriate.
