This position provides strategic and operational leadership for the Benefits team within the Office of Total Rewards. The Director collaborates with the Sr. Director of Total Rewards to progress strategic priorities. They will develop, implement, communicate, and administer the Health Care Plans and Retirement Plans of the University Benefits Programs for faculty, staff, and retirees to recruit, retain, and reward a qualified and diverse workforce. This role supports the overall Human Resources and University mission and vision through innovative and comprehensive benefit programs designed to meet the needs of faculty, staff, and retirees across the University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field required
  • 7 years of progressive Benefits experience, encompassing various aspects of the Benefits function including 2 years of supervisory experience, required
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead a high-performing team, and to manage an extended (indirect) team through influence
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, large-scale change initiatives
  • Strategic thinker
  • Experienced interpersonal skills, including ability to collaborate and build relationships with all levels of University leadership and faculty/staff/retirees

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Suite, virtual collaboration tools (Zoom, Box); Adobe, etc preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact, both orally and in writing, with people across diverse backgrounds and cultures preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and operational leadership for Benefits team within the Office of Total Rewards.
  • Collaborates with the Sr. Director of Total Rewards to progress strategic priorities of Total Rewards.
  • Develops, implements, communicates and administers the Health Care Plans and Retirement Plans of the University Benefits Programs for faculty, staff and retirees in order to recruit, retain and reward a qualified and diverse workforce.
  • Supports the overall Human Resources and University mission and vision through innovative and comprehensive benefit programs designed to meet the needs of faculty, staff and retirees across the University.
  • Leads efforts to assess benefits-related needs at a systemic, strategic level.
  • Partners with a variety of HR and University leaders and groups.
  • Develops strategic recommendations and business cases, including financial implication, to address benefit needs.
  • Sets the vision and philosophy for benefits as part of Total Rewards at the University.
  • Progresses the vision through engaging and inspiring University and HR leadership, Total Rewards and HR teams and others as appropriate.
  • Develops and implements a Benefits strategy, programs and processes that further the HR and University mission and vision, as well as being based on regulatory requirements, needs of various departments and stakeholders, industry best practices and market and financial considerations.
  • Leads the Benefits team, ensuring effective team structure and processes are in place.
  • Supports staff development and leads and inspires the team.
  • Oversees project management of multiple large-scale, complex benefit-related initiatives as part of the Total Rewards organization.
  • Provides leadership, oversight and counsel to ensure the University is in compliance with ERISA, HIPAA and other state and federal regulations related to the Benefits Program.
  • Assumes management responsibility in absence of the Sr. Director.
