About The Position

The Director, Technology Architect is responsible for defining and guiding the enterprise-wide technology architecture strategy for Seattle Children's, with a primary focus on leading our strategic migration to a modern public cloud ecosystem. This individual ensures that clinical, research, and administrative systems are safely, securely, and efficiently transitioned to optimize institutional goals, regulatory requirements, and emerging innovations in healthcare technology. The incumbent will cultivate and optimize relationships with strategic technology vendors and hyperscale cloud providers, establishing the foundational landing zones, governance models, and migration frameworks that ensure external architectures seamlessly enable Seattle Children's technological roadmap and patient-care objectives. The role bridges IT, clinical and business operations, and research, ensuring scalable, secure, and interoperable systems that support high-quality patient care, business processes, and data-driven research. The Technology Architect partners closely with the IT senior leadership team, hospital and research leadership, to drive digital transformation, legacy modernization, and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in architecture with a track record of successfully developing and delivering technology solutions of different scales.
  • 5+ years of experience in an enterprise, solution, application, or technology architect role with demonstrated progressive leadership.
  • 5+ years of experience leading large-scale cloud migration strategies (Lift-and-Shift, and Re-platforming, ) from on-premise/co-located data centers to public cloud environments.
  • 10+ years of direct, hands-on experience across multiple enterprise architecture domains such as strategy, business, process, systems, infrastructure, information, and IS security.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated industry leadership, including impactful decision-making, mentorship, and team building.
  • At least one Professional or Expert-level Cloud Architect certification from a major cloud provider (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect).

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience designing Cloud Operating Models (Cloud Center of Excellence - CCoE) and transitioning teams from traditional infrastructure support to DevSecOps and FinOps.
  • Deep technical knowledge of hybrid-cloud networking, cross-cloud security compliance, and cloud financial management (FinOps) to drive cost-optimization across hyperscale environments.
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare systems (preferably Epic), interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR), and regulatory requirements.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in IT leadership roles in an academic medical center, complex health system, or other related field.
  • Master’s Degree in a STEM field including, but not limited to, Computer Science, Engineering, and Information Technology.
