About The Position

At the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), we are redefining how talent drives performance in a complex, high-impact environment. We are seeking a Director, Talent Partnerships to play a pivotal role in transforming how we align people, strategy, and organizational capability. This is not a traditional human resources (HR) leadership role. This is an opportunity to design and lead a modern talent partnership model, elevate strategic advisory capability, and directly influence how the organization delivers on its mandate. Reporting to the Vice President, People, Culture & Learning, you will shape and lead the HR Business Partner (HRBP) model, partner with senior leaders to translate business priorities into actionable workforce and talent strategies, ensuring enterprise programs are thoughtfully designed, adopted, impactful, and measurable, and build a team capable of delivering insightful, data-informed talent solutions.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or a related discipline with 15+ years of progressive experience in human resources, organizational development, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of leadership experience, including leading senior professionals and building diverse, high‑performing, cross‑disciplinary teams in complex organizations.
  • Proven ability to deliver enterprise‑level impact by applying systems thinking and sound judgment to influence senior leaders and shape people, talent, and organizational decisions.
  • Deep expertise in HR business partner models and talent strategy with experience elevating HRBP capability and translating business priorities into integrated workforce, talent, and organizational solutions.
  • Demonstrated success translating workforce planning, talent management, organizational effectiveness, and change initiatives into practical, scalable outcomes.
  • Experience applying data-informed approach to decision-making, translating insights into action

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Talent Partnership Model by defining and elevating the HRBP model, setting expectations for strategic, enterprise-focused partnership, and building capability within the HRBP team to deliver high-value, insight driven support to leaders.
  • Drive the AER Workforce and Talent Strategy by translating business strategy into forward-looking workforce and talent plans, identifying risks, gaps, and opportunities in organizational capability and leadership pipelines, and aligning talent acquisition, workforce planning, and development into integrated solutions.
  • Deliver impact through programs by partnering with program design teams to implement enterprise talent initiatives, ensuring programs enhance the overall employee experience and are adopted effectively and deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Influence at the Executive level by acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on talent and organizational effectiveness and bringing insight, challenge and perspective to decision-making.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team providing leadership to the HRBP and Talent and Workforce Planning functions and fostering an enterprise mindset and a culture of accountability, growth and continuous improvement.
