About The Position

Under the leadership of the Dean of Students, the Office of Student Advocacy and Assistance is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered, and dedicated professional to serve as the Director. This role will provide leadership for team members across all campus locations in developing supportive action plans for students who are experiencing circumstances that are or may interfere with their academic success. This position is critical in the direct support of students and ensures they receive appropriate interventions, referrals, follow-up services and monitoring in order to maximize student success. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, the Director must strategically lead the efficient and effective delivery of services while balancing the needs of individual students and the community. This position requires evidence of effective leadership and strategic planning skills and a commitment to student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including two (2) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Experience in work that requires organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in establishing relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Experience working collaboratively and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in multitasking in a fast-paced work environment with attention to detail and a self-motivated work style.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data collection and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, plans and reviews activities and operations of the Student Advocacy and Assistance team to ensure achievement of established objectives and goals consistent with the mission of the University.
  • Supervise, hire, train and evaluate assigned staff on multiple campus locations.
  • Manage the unit and serve as a resource regarding students of concern and trends within the student population.
  • Communicate and implement standard operating procedures for student support processes to ensure consistency throughout Student Advocacy and Assistance university wide.
  • Problem solve complex situations; create and implement action plans to support student needs.
  • Conduct and assist with the development of long- and short-range goals; participate in strategic planning for the unit.
  • Resolve problems and/or issues affecting the unit; direct measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the unit.
  • Achieve results that support retention efforts through effective communication and collaborative relationships with various university departments.
  • Communicate difficult and sensitive information with relevant parties in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Oversee the management of the ASU Student Crisis Fund, which provides emergency funds for students in imminent financial need.
  • Oversee the management of the ASU Childcare Subsidy, which provides funding for students with dependents.
  • Develop and deliver educational presentations designed to increase awareness of campus and community resources.
  • Provide data collection and analysis regarding student support and retention.
  • Develop and prepare internal and external administrative reports, documents and process flows.
  • Provide recommendations for operational policies and procedures; prepare and update internal manuals.
  • Provide non-clinical case management of difficult, complex student situations involving multiple touch points across the university; to include Title IX situations.
  • Manage and respond to critical incidents and crisis situations.
  • Develop and monitor budgets for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Represent the Dean of Students Office by serving on university committees and workgroups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Serve on an on-call rotation for the Office of the Dean of Students
