About The Position

The Director, Strategy and Fundraising Operations contributes to the calling of Medical Teams International as a senior leadership role responsible for driving fundraising strategy, operational excellence, donor engagement systems, and organizational growth initiatives. Under the strategic leadership of the Vice President, Philanthropy, this position partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including but not limited to the fundraising and marketing teams, program leaders; and executes comprehensive fundraising strategies that maximize philanthropic revenue, strengthen donor relationships, and support the organization’s mission. The Director oversees fundraising operations, fundraising performance management, strategic planning, donor analytics, prospect research, CRM systems and other fundraising tools, campaign management, and cross-functional initiatives that enhance fundraising effectiveness and organizational sustainability.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising and development experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing fundraising operations, strategy, or development teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading fundraising initiatives generating significant annual revenue growth.
  • Strong expertise in donor databases/CRM platforms, fundraising analytics, and performance reporting.
  • Experience working with executive leadership, boards of directors, and major donors.
  • Excellent strategic planning, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent project management and project leadership experience.
  • A proven track record of successfully leading teams through change management and integrating and adapting to new systems.
  • History of setting strategic direction for a team and achieving goals.
  • Bachelor's degree: Philanthropy, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Valid Driver License.

  • Broad base of knowledge and skills covering all fundraising operations fundamentals.

  • Intermediate (or higher) experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree: Philanthropy, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification.
  • Experience supporting capital campaigns or comprehensive fundraising campaigns.
  • Knowledge of donor analytics, wealth screening, and prospect research methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic initiatives from concept through implementation and realization of outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Fundraising Operations team.
  • Partner cross-team with other directors and peers throughout Philanthropy and Marketing and Mobilization.
  • Develop and implement multi-year fundraising strategies aligned with organizational goals and growth objectives.
  • Partner with the VP, Philanthropy to establish annual fundraising targets, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue diversification, including major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundations, grants, planned giving, and annual campaigns.
  • Lead strategic planning efforts related to fundraising growth and donor engagement.
  • Monitor fundraising trends, market conditions, and philanthropic best practices.
  • Translate strategies into measurable operational plans and performance metrics.
  • Serve as Trusted Advisor to drive strategies forward.
  • Oversee all fundraising operations, systems, processes, and reporting functions.
  • Ensure accurate donor data management, gift processing, acknowledgment procedures, and compliance standards.
  • Lead CRM strategy, optimization, and data governance initiatives – factoring in the deployment and integration of all fundraising tools.
  • Develop operational frameworks that improve fundraising efficiency and scalability.
  • Implement policies and procedures to support sustainable philanthropy operations.
  • Oversee and manage the Philanthropy annual budget process in conjunction with the organizational process and timeline.
  • Establish rhythm for reviews and updates across Philanthropy, in partnership with the VP Philanthropy.
  • Establish performance indicators to include Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and dashboards for measuring fundraising effectiveness.
  • Analyze fundraising data, donor trends, and campaign performance to inform strategic decisions and to keep the VP Philanthropy informed on an agreed upon rhythm.
  • Develop forecasting models and revenue projections in partnership with the VP, Philanthropy.
  • Provide regular reports and insights to executive leadership and board committees, including but not limited to revenue tracking.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across fundraising programs.
  • Collaborate with frontline Advancement and Corporation and Foundations teams to strengthen donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Drive pipeline development and prospect management processes and practices.
  • Partner with leadership and board members on high-capacity donor engagement opportunities.
  • Ensure personalized stewardship strategies that enhance donor retention and lifetime value.
  • Establish engagement strategies, processes, and repeatable templates.
  • Lead operational planning and execution for campaigns, including annual giving, capital, planned giving, principal, major, mid-level and special fundraising initiatives.
  • Establish process for donor hosted gatherings, building a template and plan for execution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful campaign implementation.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, resources, and stakeholder communications.
  • Evaluate campaign outcomes and recommend improvements.
  • Lead and mentor fundraising operations, analytics, prospect research, and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Establish professional development plans and performance goals for team members.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing fundraising operations professionals.
  • Prepare strategic reports, presentations, and recommendations for philanthropy leadership, executive leadership and board committees.
  • Support board engagement in fundraising efforts and donor cultivation activities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on fundraising strategy, operational effectiveness, and organizational growth opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with fundraising regulations, nonprofit reporting requirements, and ethical fundraising standards.
  • Maintain data privacy, gift acceptance policies, and donor confidentiality practices.
  • Monitor operational risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure the safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies.
  • Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations.
