About The Position

The Director will help advance Sun Life Asset Management’s (SLAM) strategic growth agenda by developing and executing high-impact initiatives across our asset management, wealth and insurance businesses; including contributing to new product development and advising on future sources of external permanent capital including sidecars and reinsurance arrangements. The Director will bring structured problem solving and strong execution discipline to complex opportunities, including cross-enterprise product development, partnership models, capital formation, sidecars, reinsurance arrangements, and other innovative solutions. This role is ideal for a proactive professional eager to drive growth, enable collaboration, and support complex deal execution across Sun Life’s global asset management, wealth, and insurance businesses.

Requirements

  • Structured analysis and problem solving – able to break down complex topics into logical components, apply data-driven analysis, assess risks and trade-offs, and develop practical recommendations.

  • Project management and execution – able to drive priorities forward, coordinate workstreams, and enable effective cross-functional collaboration in a global matrix organization.

  • Cross-functional leadership – proven track record leading complex projects across global matrix environments, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Influencing and stakeholder buy-in – skilled at shaping perspectives, building alignment, and gaining support from diverse stakeholders.
  • Relationship building and collaboration – builds strong relationships and fosters collaboration across all levels of the organization.
  • Senior stakeholder management – adept at engaging, aligning, and managing expectations of senior leaders and cross-functional partners to drive strategic outcomes.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in strategy consulting or corporate development, gained either as an external advisor of in-house at a multinational organization.
  • Industry experience in asset management and/or insurance.
  • Proven track record leading cross-functional projects in global or matrix organizations.

  • Finance-related professional designation would be an asset (CFA, CPA, or actuarial credentials)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver on SLAM’s strategic direction and goals by executing on internal and external growth initiatives.
  • Scope and assess opportunities and determine which to pursue in the context of SLAM strategy, financial impact, operational feasibility, risk tolerance, etc.
  • Lead and drive the execution of strategic initiatives from concept through execution, translating priorities into clear workplans, coordinating cross-functional workstreams, resolving barriers, and ensuring delivery against agreed outcomes and timelines.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with various stakeholders including investment teams, distribution, finance, legal, risk, and operations to translate execute against initiatives.
  • Assist in the identification and execution of internal synergies across Sun Life’s insurance, wealth and asset management operations to create a self-reinforcing growth flywheel.
  • Advise on the design and launch of innovative business models and expansions that unlock new sources of capital and assets under management (AUM).
  • Support with financial modeling, deal due diligence, portfolio assessment, and deal triage.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and integration across Sun Life’s businesses to drive innovative solutions.
  • Maintain an understanding of external developments and market trends through various sources (e.g., secondary research, competitor actions, industry developments, industry network).
  • Prepare and present materials for senior management and other key stakeholders with recommendations and progress updates.
  • Contribute to a culture of ownership, innovation, and inclusivity.
