About The Position

As a key strategic leadership position within AstraZeneca Canada, this position mentors and manages a team of professionals responsible for developing and implementing pricing strategies for AstraZeneca’s portfolio (OBU, BBU), driving AstraZeneca’s innovative pricing and contracting solutions, pricing governance and all aspects of AstraZeneca’s adherence to Canadian pricing regulations (PMPRB).

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in a relevant quantitative specialty. MBA is an asset.
  • Significant relevant pharmaceutical experience (7-10+ years) in Market Access, including specific dedicated experience in pricing
  • Solid understanding and experience with Canadian payer environment and PMPRB specifically
  • Experienced team and people leader with previous people management experience
  • Ability to think strategically about complex and systematic challenges, and able to build results oriented approaches
  • Track record of leveraging analytic rigour to deliver business-optimized solutions
  • Business knowledge and credibility at senior commercial levels
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing abilities
  • Excellent communications skills (written, spoken and presentation)
  • Strong people leadership skills, passionate about developing teams
  • Strong negotiation and facilitation skills; strong communication skills
  • Strategically agile with strong business insight and can synthesize information from diverse sources to build strategies and solutions

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and cultivate the Strategic Pricing team, empowering a team culture aligned to AstraZeneca’s values, fostering an environment of innovation, a solutions-oriented approach to problem solving and a strong focus to achieve results
  • Establish forward-thinking pricing strategies including list and net price approaches for all AZ brands: Leads the development and local/global approval of gross and net pricing strategies
  • Develop viable deal structures for payer negotiations and build innovative, fit-for-purpose contracting solutions for public and private payers that improve near and long term brand contribution
  • Responsible for adherence to global pricing policies and managing processes for exceptions management
  • Implement processes for the planning and analyses of rebates and chargebacks for all pricing contracts (public, private, hospital/GPO)
  • Collaborate with business units to create and communicate the pricing requirements for each business segment, develop the financial models, consolidate data to allow for multiple views of the information, and prepare presentations for leadership review
  • Work with Commercial Financial Planning to understand the financial impact of current gross-to-net reserves, pipeline stocking, existing and future contracting on Net Sales results
  • Responsible for pricing compliance and reporting requirements locally and globally including PMPRB reporting, monitoring, and issues management.
  • Advise and leads AZ position and response to policy changes that involve pricing aligned to our corporate strategic direction (i.e. PMPRB)
  • Advise business on net price impact and performance for Patient Support Program offerings including Free Drug Programs and co-pay support – responsible for local and global pricing approvals process related to the above
  • Establish & monitor pricing metrics including year-over-year price variance by brand and by region, assess net price performance vs. targeted goals
  • Assess and implement annual price increases for AZ products
  • Chair the Pricing Approval Committee (PAC) for all Canadian pricing approvals, including exceptions management
  • Remain current on pricing environment and engages with industry associations and key industry colleagues to proactively identify emerging trends, opportunities or challenges in the market place including government health policy changes and cost containment initiatives.
