About The Position

This role is part of Alcon's Commercial & General Management function, a team that oversees the company's commercial strategies to ensure operational efficiency and support strategic decision making as we transform the eye care industry. The Director, Strategic Pricing & Planning (Professional Path), is primarily responsible for shaping and implementing pricing strategies to boost revenue and profitability. You will lead a team, collaborate with departments, manage global pricing policies, and ensure alignment with strategic goals. A deep understanding of market dynamics and pricing technology is essential to drive financial success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+6 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • 6 years of demonstrated leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in Pricing analytics (elasticity, price waterfall, margin optimization)
  • Experience designing and operating pricing governance frameworks, including: Approval processes and escalation rules, Deal review and exception management
  • Hands-on experience with pricing and commercial systems, such as: Pricing Software, CPQ, ERP (e.g., SAP), and contracting systems
  • Track record of building pricing capabilities, training programs, and best practices

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute pan-franchise pricing strategies for current and future products, ensuring competitive positioning and market alignment
  • Lead the strategic development of Alcon’s Pricing Technology Ecosystem, including quoting, tender management, and price optimization applications to enhance pricing efficiency and effectiveness
  • Manage global pricing policies, review regional annual price update plans, and ensure compliance with corporate guidelines
  • Assess pricing risks across cross-border deals, provide recommendations, and implement risk mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate the annual price planning process across defined regions to achieve commercial goals and support regional pricing initiatives
  • Adapt commercial and pricing strategies for established products to optimize revenue in targeted customer and market segments, including government payors and managed care accounts
  • Lead a team of pricing professionals, providing guidance and support to achieve pricing objectives
  • Influence pricing strategies across multiple regions and product lines, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives
  • Collaborate with global and regional teams to drive pricing initiatives that enhance the company's competitive edge and profitability
  • Make high-level decisions on pricing strategies and policies, with the ability to approve major pricing initiatives and adjustments
  • Utilize strategic thinking and advanced industry knowledge to develop and implement effective pricing strategies
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and team management abilities in leading pricing initiatives
  • Apply proficiency in pricing technology and optimization tools to enhance pricing efficiency and effectiveness
  • Drive pricing as a core value-capture lever, balancing growth, margin, and access considerations
  • Co-own and influence the global pricing governance model, including policies, approval frameworks, and escalation paths
  • Ensure alignment between strategy intent and in-market execution through governance oversight
  • Oversee development of pricing strategies translated into pricing models and commercial workflows
  • Define and monitor global pricing KPIs, including price realization, margin performance, and adherence to strategy
  • Lead development of advanced pricing analytics and translate analytics into actionable recommendations to improve pricing performance
  • Monitor macro-economic factors and market dynamics impacting pricing Optimization
  • Own Global Price Optimization Strategy including pricing model architecture, and model governance processes
  • Lead development and scaling of next-generation models
