About The Position

The Director of Strategic Finance will lead the financial evaluation of major customer opportunities, contract renewals, pricing decisions, and other strategic initiatives. This role will build the financial models, test the key assumptions, identify risks, and recommend whether the company should move forward, renegotiate, or walk away. The Director will work closely with Sales, Operations, Merchandising, Procurement, and executive leadership. The role reports to the Vice President of Finance and manages one Finance Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • At least seven years of experience in Strategic Finance, FP&A, Commercial Finance, Corporate Finance, or a related role.
  • Experience evaluating customer deals, pricing decisions, contracts, investments, or business cases.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Strong PowerPoint and executive presentation skills.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Good understanding of pricing, profitability, costs, capital investment, and business returns.
  • Ability to challenge assumptions and make clear recommendations.
  • Ability to explain complex analysis in simple terms.
  • Strong business judgment and the confidence to work with senior leaders.
  • Ability to manage several complex projects at the same time.
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Strong partnership mindset and the ability to build trust across Finance, Sales, Operations, and other teams.
  • Approachable, collaborative, and easy to work with, while still willing to challenge assumptions and have difficult conversations.
  • Good judgment and self-awareness, with the ability to adapt communication style to different people and situations.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, CPA or CFA is a plus
  • Experience in distribution, retail, foodservice, logistics, consumer products, or another high-volume operating business.
  • Experience with planning, business intelligence, or data visualization tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial analysis for major customer bids, RFPs, contract renewals, and other growth opportunities.
  • Build business cases and financial models covering sales, gross profit, operating costs, EBITDA, working capital, and capital investment.
  • Test different pricing, volume, cost, and investment scenarios.
  • Clearly identify the expected return, major risks, and key assumptions.
  • Recommend whether the company should proceed, change the deal structure, or decline the opportunity.
  • Review the profitability of existing customers and contracts.
  • Analyze pricing, margins, incentives, delivery costs, operating costs, and contractual commitments.
  • Identify customers or contracts that are not meeting expected returns.
  • Work with business leaders to improve pricing, reduce costs, renegotiate terms, or take other corrective action.
  • Turn detailed financial analysis into clear and practical recommendations.
  • Present business cases, options, risks, and financial impacts to senior leadership.
  • Support strategic planning and other high-priority business decisions.
  • Provide an independent financial view that balances growth, profitability, customer needs, and operational capacity.
  • Create consistent models, tools, and approval standards for evaluating deals and investments.
  • Improve the quality and speed of financial decision support.
  • Lead cross-functional workstreams and manage and develop one Finance Manager.
