About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead teams responsible for delivering high-quality software systems that support our products and platforms. This role is intended for a senior engineering leader with a strong personal background in handson software development and a proven ability to guide teams toward predictable delivery, sound technical decisions, and longterm sustainability. The Director of Software Engineering leads Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers and works closely with Architecture, Product, and peer technology leaders. Success in this role comes from balancing execution discipline with technical rigor and from helping teams continuously improve how they design, build, and operate software. This is a longterm leadership role for someone who values thoughtful stewardship, strong engineering fundamentals, and professional growth.

Requirements

  • Significant prior experience as a hands‑on software developer, including responsibility for building, deploying, and operating production software systems.
  • Extensive experience leading software development teams, including direct leadership of Engineering Managers and senior technical contributors.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex software reliably across multiple teams.
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to engage meaningfully in design discussions, evaluate tradeoffs, and identify delivery risk.
  • Experience collaborating closely with architecture or platform teams in organizations with shared technical standards.
  • Experience working with teams across multiple regions or time zones.
  • Strong communication skills and a leadership style grounded in clarity, accountability, and mutual respect.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams with professionalism, emotional intelligence, and integrity.
  • Track record of building high‑trust, low‑drama engineering environments where accountability and psychological safety coexist.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery outcomes across multiple engineering teams, ensuring commitments are realistic, clearly understood, and met consistently.
  • Lead and support Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers across distributed teams, including teams based in India, ensuring teams are structured around clear ownership boundaries that align with architectural intent and support independent delivery.
  • Apply hands‑on software development experience to planning, estimation, and technical discussions to assess feasibility, surface risk, and guide sound decisions.
  • Partner closely with Architecture to ensure architectural direction and delivery plans remain aligned, with shared accountability for technical outcomes.
  • Translate engineering principles and industry best practices into day‑to‑day engineering behavior, ensuring standards for quality, testing, reliability, and maintainability are consistently applied.
  • Foster disciplined execution practices that balance scope, quality, and timelines rather than optimizing for speed alone.
  • Provide leadership for teams operating across geographies and time zones by establishing clear ownership models, aligned expectations, and consistent communication practices that enable predictable delivery and effective collaboration.
  • Develop engineering leadership over time by coaching managers and senior engineers, strengthening delivery capability, and addressing persistent performance issues constructively.
  • Establish clear standards and leadership for the responsible use of AI in Engineering, using AI to increase the effectiveness, quality, and leverage of existing teams while reinforcing that engineering judgment, ownership, and accountability remain central.
