About The Position

The Associated Press (AP) is seeking a Director to serve as the second-in-command for audience execution across social platforms, video, and digital presentation for APNews.com. This senior newsroom leadership role focuses on translating strategy into daily output, identifying new ways to grow audience and revenue, and overseeing social platforms, video (on-platform and on-site), and digital design and presentation. The role also involves developing creator partnerships and identifying monetization opportunities, working closely with product and revenue teams to ensure AP journalism is widely seen, understood, and valued.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong newsroom leadership experience across audience, video, or digital formats
  • A track record of turning strategy into execution at scale

Responsibilities

  • Own execution across key audience surfaces, translating audience strategy into daily output across social platforms, video, and presentation, ensuring consistency in tone, quality, and performance.
  • Lead three core teams: Social platforms (overseeing AP's presence across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and emerging channels, setting daily priorities, guiding platform-specific storytelling), Video (driving strategy and execution of social video and video on APNews.com), and Digital design and presentation (leading the team responsible for infographics, visual storytelling, and immersive formats).
  • Identify and develop revenue opportunities by working with product and revenue teams to translate audience growth into revenue through platform monetization, sponsorship opportunities, video packaging, and new formats.
  • Develop creator strategy and partnerships by identifying, recruiting, and collaborating with creators to expand AP's reach and storytelling.
  • Drive performance and accountability by setting clear expectations tied to audience KPIs (reach, engagement, retention, revenue contribution) and ensuring teams understand success metrics.
  • Establish repeatable workflows to enable teams to operate with speed and clarity across time zones, reducing friction between editorial, video, design, and external partners.
  • Partner across the newsroom with editors, product, analytics, and revenue teams to align coverage with audience opportunities and business goals.
  • Develop talent and strengthen teams by coaching team leads, identifying gaps, and building a culture of ownership and accountability.
