About The Position

The incumbent is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, and program development for surgical and non- surgical specialties to include but limited to general and bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, colon and rectal surgery, pulmonology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, urology and infectious disease programs across the market. The director works in collaboration with physicians and clinical leadership to establish and execute effective initiatives, plans and tactics for programs, physician integration and engagement, and resource utilization with the objective of increasing growth, quality, efficiency, physician satisfaction and patient experience. The director is responsible for key operational departments across WVU Medicine North as assigned, including therapy services and ensuring effective physician clinic.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Business, or a health care related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a leadership role.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a role working with data analytics and data management.
  • Ability to Communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability and willingness to utilized computer software and applications.
  • Ability to use a multi-line telephone
  • Demonstrates well-defined organizational and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in directing clinical areas, working closely with physicians, and developing clinical strategies, implementing operational efforts, and measuring outcomes.
  • Experience in physician clinic and/or physician practice management.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the key physician leaders within their respective specialties and in collaboration with clinicians, physicians and administration, develops, implements, and monitors, clinical program goals for the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
  • Provides leadership and strategic vision to develop and operationalize standard processes relating to clinical programs. Collaborates with key leaders and departments to develop system goals, action plans and program evaluation.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, develops processes, tools and policies to ensure appropriate utilization management. Works closely with the Medical Directors and/or Physician leaders to provide support and education, facilitate standardization and create best practices for issues related to level of care, appropriateness, documentation, and other related issues that require clinical input.
  • Promotes and maintains positive relationships with medical staff, administration, Medical Group, hospital personnel, post-acute providers, payers, and other community entities relative to clinical programs. Creates and maintains network with post-acute providers.
  • Participates in system-wide their respective specialties related teams. Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of systems to define measure and improve quality as well as optimize the delivery of clinical programs throughout the system and community
  • Stays abreast of clinical program innovations through local, regional, and national networking and acts as a subject matter expert within the system.
  • Acts as department liaison and represents the department’s needs in various group meetings. Involved with departmental community outreach effort on behalf of satellite clinics.
  • Supports clinical research and helps to emphasize this throughout all clinical program initiatives
  • Determines most efficient and cost-effective means for gathering and analyzing data needed to support departmental goals and achieve growth through the accomplishment of long-range goals and objectives.
  • Participates in the collection and analysis of all quality/performance data and develops meaningful action plans to address identified internal and external opportunities for improvement in patient care.
  • Responsible for ensuring effective provider clinic operations within their clinical programs.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop departmental/clinic budgets, reviews budgetary compliance and progress for all departmental activities including but not limited to, clinical operations and special projects.
  • Collaborates with Revenue Cycle and Health Information Management related to departmental coding and billing for clinical site/sections. Maintains knowledge of billing-related matters for development of specialties and communicates pertinent information to providers, residents, advanced practice providers, clinical and clerical staff.
  • Works with leadership and key stakeholders to ensure that the overall plan for the service lines are aligned with the other components of the clinical and academic components of the clinical enterprise.
  • Collaborates with Provider Practice Division leadership and system leadership to improve patient care.
