About The Position

Thomson Reuters is seeking a seasoned, agile, and forward-thinking communications professional to elevate its segment/commercial communications. As the single point of contact for segment leaders, this role involves developing and delivering a coherent and compelling strategy across internal and external communications. The Director will articulate segment achievements and business strategies, enhancing the brand’s market standing and colleague engagement across new and existing channels and audiences. This strategic role requires effective collaboration with strategy, marketing, product, engineering, and HR teams to drive unified, impactful messaging. Advanced relationship management skills are essential for building trust and commitment from stakeholders. Regular media engagements, including managing relationships with business and technology journalists (such as Reuters), are integral to this high-visibility role. The ideal candidate will navigate complex challenges and articulate clear, engaging solutions, with essential experience in commercial, executive, or business segment communications within the technology sector, preferably with familiarity with publicly listed companies. Experience working within a technology company in a highly matrixed environment and closely with senior executives is crucial.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a technology company within a highly matrixed environment.
  • Proven experience (8+ years) in commercial and executive communication or corporate communications within a matrixed environment for a publicly traded global and/or technology company.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to distill complex financial information into clear and compelling messages for various audiences.
  • Deep knowledge of and excellent relationships with top-tier media contacts, skilled media relations capabilities with the ability to lead media outreach programs at a senior executive level.
  • Good experience of internal comms strategy and planning.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining proactive relationships at a C-suite level.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate and build consensus effectively across functions and with senior executives.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the single point of contact and lead internal and external communications strategy for the Legal Professionals business segment.
  • Engage directly with the segment president on major business moments, announcements, and thought leadership opportunities as a strategic part of the segment leadership team.
  • Function as a trusted advisor to senior executives, offering high-level strategic counsel on all matters related to communications, including messaging, cadence, and media handling.
  • Develop and execute an external communications strategy (50% of role), including organizing speaking opportunities, developing a media engagement strategy, social media strategy, messaging, speaker notes, and proactively securing strategic media coverage.
  • Manage two direct reports: Manager, Media Relations and Manager, Influencer Relations, both dedicated to the legal tech space.
  • Develop an internal communications strategy and processes (50% of role) for communicating to segment colleagues and out to the enterprise, with support from an internal communications partner.
  • Deliver a program of market-leading customer storytelling opportunities, sharing customer impact stories, testimonials, and wins across internal and external channels.
  • Partner with various teams to understand product moments and weave these stories into segment narratives to support commercial success.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, competitor moves, and regulatory shifts to offer timely advice and adjustments to the segment communications strategy.
  • Support the segment and communications team in crisis communications, including being part of a roster for out-of-hours cover for incidents with reputational risk.
