About The Position

This role serves as the Director for a disease program in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, with a 10% effort. The position involves overseeing clinical activities, providing leadership, mentoring junior members, encouraging academic development, collaborating with other specialists, supervising practice operations, and engaging in strategic initiatives. Additionally, the role includes conducting basic and translational cancer research in sarcoma, submitting grant and trial proposals, securing extramural support, publishing findings, and presenting work at national meetings. Patient services include outpatient clinics and inpatient oncology attending and consultative services. Teaching responsibilities involve supervising residents and fellows, and giving lectures.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree.
  • Board certification in Medical Oncology.
  • Eligible for academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
  • Experience in leadership and clinical program management.
  • Demonstrated success in research, including grant funding and publications.
  • Strong mentorship and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee clinical activities of faculty members in the program, including practice guidelines, research, mentorship, compliance, quality, service, scope.
  • Provide general leadership, including service and education.
  • Mentor junior members of the program, in cooperation with other leaders.
  • Encourage and facilitate academic development/promotion and diversification of expertise. Participate in regular/annual career development conferences with faculty members in the program.
  • Collaborate with related sub-specialists and investigators in various disciplines across Winship.
  • Supervise practice operations (quality, availability, proficiency, productivity, efficiency, compliance).
  • Work with nursing and administrative leaders to ensure the quality, capacity, effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of medical services.
  • Represent the program in the broader Winship and Emory communities.
  • Engage in relevant strategic initiatives (e.g., recruitment, space planning).
  • Conduct basic and translational cancer research in sarcoma.
  • Submit grant & trial proposals.
  • Progressively secure extramural support for 65% or more of the research-related expense of salary.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, and present work at (inter)national meetings.
  • Provide outpatient services: 2 weekly half-day sessions.
  • Provide inpatient oncology attending and consultative services at least 2 weeks per year.
  • Supervise residents & HMO fellows.
  • Give appropriate/necessary lectures.
