The Associate Director, Digital Medical Strategy is responsible for the execution and operationalization of digital initiatives that enable Medical Affairs, leveraging digital tools and platforms, AI, and integrated data and analytics. The role applies strong scientific and Medical Affairs strategic expertise to inform, evaluate, and contribute to current and emerging technologies that support Medical Affairs objectives. Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position will contribute to and drive implementation of the Medical Affairs digital strategy and roadmap, building enterprise-wide foundational and long-term digital and AI capabilities. This role will collaborate with Global and Regional Medical Affairs colleagues and key cross-functional teams including enterprise-wide Medical Affairs, Global Digital Business Team, Clinical Development, Commercial, Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, and others to develop and drive the adoption and implementation of both internal and external facing digital initiatives. The Assoc Director, Digital Medical Strategy will also leverage digital tools and capabilities to enhance scientific content and digital scientific communication channels, including contributing to and supporting the strategic planning and execution of high-quality, compliant digital scientific communications across all digital medical channels.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific terminal degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) required
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant Medical / Scientific experience and a minimum of 8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Strong scientific knowledge and expertise in Oncology preferred
  • Demonstrated functional and subject matter expertise in Medical Affairs strategy, activities, systems, and workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to assess, select, implement, and scale digital platforms, with AI & Digital Fluency.
  • Must be self-starter to stay informed about the rapidly evolving technology landscape and champion new opportunities for innovation and growth.
  • Ability to lead and drive change management (agility, drive clear communication and understanding of new initiatives, stakeholder management, ability to connect with and motivate people and teams), including providing training and upskilling needed to support digital initiatives and technological advancements.
  • Thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and extensive experience partnering with cross functional teams across R&D, commercial functions, IT, legal, regulatory, and compliance.
  • Experience working across functions, regions and cultures including ability to troubleshoot, influence, and break down barriers within a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience translating data into actionable strategic recommendations with data analytics, dashboards, and data visualization tools.
  • Experience managing, evaluating, and working with third party solution providers, vendors, and agencies.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, prioritize, think critically, analyze situations, and adapt to change to achieve shared goals.
  • Able to work hybrid in Nutley, NY (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in office every week).
  • Ability to travel as needed to conferences and internal meetings up to 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement enterprise global digital strategy for Medical Affairs across therapeutic areas; build multi-year digital medical affairs roadmap and capabilities that support science and Medical Affairs strategic vision.
  • Contribute to and execute digital-forward scientific communication plans, including medical websites, portals, social channels & campaigns, videos, digital publications and congress assets with a focus on supporting medical communication objectives and education via the right channels and content formats.
  • Create and oversee content creation of specialized digital channel content, including social posts, thought-leader videos, disease state education, etc. This role will work with specialized agencies, IT and other internal teams to manage websites and other channels, adapt other medical affairs content for digital channels, and drive medical content review submissions and revisions as necessary. This role will apply science and medical strategy to optimize and tailor scientific content for HCP audiences, ensuring that science is accurately interpreted and communicated at scale.
  • Advance analytics & insights; enable enterprise-wide AI systems that integrate MA insights with internal and external data sources while ensuring appropriate context and limitations are built in, protecting and ensuring scientific accuracy and credibility.
  • Under the leadership and direction of the Executive Director Medical Communication & Digital Strategy, effectively establish new key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate digital initiatives, including social media and digital channel campaigns, and pivot as needed while employing an agile way of working.
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new technologies, digital trends, and AI use cases (insights, content optimization, Field Medical, Med Info, etc.) ensuring outputs are scientifically valid and inform medical decision-making.
  • Lead pilot programs and scale successful digital initiatives globally.
  • Define tools, analytics, and governance for enterprise-wide omnichannel medical engagement strategies and platforms using integrated data and advanced analytics to better understand individual HCP decision‑making and to guide more personalized, impactful Medical Affairs strategies.
  • Assess innovative digital tools and platforms informed by analytics and big data, optimize digital platforms and tools, ensure seamless integration with Medical Affairs systems including CRM; manage vendor relationships, support project budgets, and ensure fair market value assessments for digital initiatives and SOWs.
  • Ensure implementation of governance strategies, compliance, and risk management.
  • Ensure country and regional compliance, legal, data protection, and regulatory guidelines are followed. Collaborate with IT security and data privacy for the implementation of any new solutions.
  • Lead and champion change management while driving the understanding and adoption of our digital engagement products and services.
  • Lead training and upskilling to users of global medical digital tools, solutions, and resources.
