About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Safety & Training professional to join a team providing oversight and development of comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety programs. Contract (12 months) Work Hours: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm (includes unpaid lunch) Office 80% / Field 20% Technical 75% and 25% Administrative Description of Work: The Consultant shall: · Represent the Senior Director of Safety in day-to-day operations. · Evaluate Safety Training programs to ensure continuous implementation, effectiveness, and adherence to rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. · Manage technical and process-related programs and tools to address education and training needs. · Lead safety-related initiatives and programs to enhance the organization’s safety culture. · Prepare occupational health and safety performance data for safety training programs for safety leadership. · Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders. · Develop, update, and deliver Occupational Health and Safety training programs to internal and external stakeholders. · Participate in high-risk work scopes, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation procedures are in place. · Perform periodic audits of construction sites to identify unsafe hazards or conditions. · Analyze and track effective measures to reduce hazards to an acceptable level. · Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, Education/Adult Learning, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of Seven (7) + years of related safety experience in construction, with four (4) + years being in a training or supervisory role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must have proven knowledge and experience in training administration, curriculum design and development, assessing training methodologies, as well as classroom instruction and delivery of safety training modules and programs.
  • Deep understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, especially Code 29 of Federal Regulations 1926 Subpart C–Training and Education, and general construction safety principles.
  • In addition to OSHA, should have solid experience or understanding of Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) laws and policies; Public Employees Safety & Health (PESH) state laws and policies, and other related federal, state, and local regulations regarding asbestos, lead, noise and airborne hazards, as well as other safety-related issues.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office suite, PeopleSoft, Oracle, Windows, etc.) Proficiency in Adobe Captivate preferred or ability to learn.
  • 30 Hour OSHA certification (Construction Industry).
  • OSHA 500 Authorized Outreach Trainer certification.
  • The individual must pass a one-day NYC Transit Track Safety, or Metro-North Railroad and/or Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Roadway Worker Protection course prior to participating in any work for __ projects that occurs on or near the track or wayside.
  • Consultant shall be responsible for obtaining work safety boots that meet C&D specifications.
  • Consultant shall be required to use his/her own cell phone

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Preferred First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) – current within one (1) year of hire date.
  • Preferred background in Transportation / Engineering / Architecture / Construction / Safety Engineering/Safety Management or Construction Safety.
  • Preferred Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification.
  • Preferred experience in performing health and safety management systems.
  • Preferred knowledge of NY State Construction Codes and / or construction safety practices.
  • Preferred industry-recognized certifications in Program Support (i.e., Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Industrial Hygienist Technician (IHT).
  • Preferred indoor environmental or air quality consulting (e.g., Council-Certified Environmental Consultant (CIEC) or Council-Certified Indoor Air Quality Professional (CIAQP).
  • Preferred Asbestos and Lead Certifications
  • Preferred strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.) Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Preferred excellent team building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills
