About The Position

This role oversees the Safety Department and is the designated authority from the Company President to establish and maintain the Management System Manual, Safety Management System, Internal Audit and Evaluation Program, and the Corporate Emergency Response Plan.

Requirements

  • Must have at least one of the following: FAA commercial pilot or airline pilot certificate OR FAA mechanics certificate OR FAA aircraft dispatcher certificate
  • Must have Three (3) years' experience in a supervisory position with a part 121 or a scheduled part 135 air carrier OR Three (3) years' experience in a comparable position in U.S. military aviation operations OR Three (3) years' experience in a supervisory position with a U.S. Government department, board, or agency that deals directly with aviation matters
  • Knowledge and understanding of: Aviation safety programs, Aviation safety standards, and Safe aviation operating practices
  • Strong oral & written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with the FAA and other outside agencies
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees from executive management to line employees
  • Ability to lead the Safety Committee and maintain positive relationships with union members
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to emerging safety issues and concerns
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with Operation Departments
  • Ability to act as the "eyes" and "ears" on safety issues for accountable executive
  • Ability to act as change agent for continuous safety improvement

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage efficacy for system efficiency, productivity, and success of the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Develop and maintain Corporate Safety training and awareness programs in OSHA regulations, Emergency Response, and environmental assessment.
  • Lead ABX Safety and Environmental Programs, working with and through Company officers to ensure the highest standards of Safety in Company operations, systems, and programs.
  • Prepare periodic reports and presentations to keep the President and senior Company officials informed of safety and environmental issues or concerns and the achievement of Company and departmental safety goals.
  • Act as Emergency Response Team Leader and direct the Company “Go Team” in the event of an aircraft mishap.
  • Maintain the ABX Safety Reporting System and update guidance on the reporting system.
  • Investigate events identified through the flight risk analysis programs (Safety Reports) or trend analysis to identify areas of vulnerability within the Safety system and collaborate on solutions with appropriate levels of management.
  • Direct all aspects of the Drug and Alcohol Program, including policy administration, regulatory compliance, testing oversight, and continuous improvement to promote a safe, substance-free workplace.
  • As designated Alternate Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator (AOSC), ensure compliance with the Full All-Cargo Operator Standard Security Program and all ABX security requirements.
  • Ensure workplace and aviation-related Security Training programs are functioning effectively.
  • Act as primary liaison with law enforcement and prosecutors.
  • Administer building security, emergency response, and evacuation procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with pertinent aviation security programs and directives.
  • Ensure the quality of policies, procedures, instructions, and information of the IEP.
  • Notify the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certificate Holding District Office (CHDO) in writing within 10 days of any personnel change or vacancy in the 14 CFR Part 119 required management positions.
  • Notify the FAA CHDO in writing at least 30 days in advance of any change of address of the principal business office or its principal base of operations.
  • Act as primary liaison in all compliance matters with the FAA, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), other federal agencies, industry organizations and associations.
  • Consult with legal counsel in matters regarding legal issues as directed by the President and act as primary liaison in matters of compliance with all Federal regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal regulations including Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), OSHA regulations, and DOT regulations.
