About The Position

Takeda Development Center Americas, Inc. is seeking a Director, Research Strategy Development. This role involves partnering with Research Senior Leadership to define, prioritize, and execute enterprise-level research strategy initiatives aligned with long-term scientific and business objectives. The position requires designing and applying quantitative research strategy and portfolio decision-making frameworks to evaluate the impact of portfolio and operating model decisions on resourcing, budget, and execution scenarios. The Director will support Research Senior Leadership, in collaboration with Finance and other enabling functions, in translating research strategy into financial plans, budgets, and resource allocation decisions. Additionally, the role involves developing and structuring strategic communications, narratives, and materials to support research investment proposals, budget requests, and business cases presented to executive leadership and the C-suite. The Director will also support senior Research Leadership in communicating research strategy, portfolio decisions, and investment rationale to enterprise-level stakeholders. Leading and supporting organizational and operating model transformation initiatives within Research to improve decision-making, governance, and execution effectiveness is key. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to define research priorities, align resources, and ensure timely execution of strategic initiatives is expected. The role also includes conducting scientific, market, and competitive landscape analyses to inform research investment decisions, portfolio prioritization, and strategic trade-offs. Building and managing strategic collaborations with external stakeholders, including academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners, to support research strategy and innovation objectives is also a responsibility. Up to 5% domestic and international travel may be required for periodic in-person meetings. Up to 20% remote work is allowed.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) plus 10 years of related work experience.
  • Prior experience must include: develop end-to-end life sciences and healthcare strategies across the therapy lifecycle, including research strategy, discovery, development/clinical, commercialization, access, and patient impact, by synthesizing scientific, operational, and business inputs.
  • Analyze and prioritize research, clinical development, or healthcare portfolios to support investment decision-making and trade-offs under resourcing and budget constraints.
  • Conduct market research and competitive landscape analyses across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, pharmacy services, and healthcare delivery settings to identify growth opportunities and strategic implications.
  • Evaluate organizational, operating model, and resourcing scenarios across healthcare and life sciences organizations, including research, development, pharmacy operations, and supporting functions, to support execution and enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Assess healthcare service delivery, pharmacy operations, and medication distribution models to identify efficiency levers, growth opportunities, and implications for patient access and outcomes.
  • Translate complex scientific, operational, and market insights into clear, decision-oriented communications and recommendations for diverse stakeholders, including scientists, senior leaders, healthcare professionals, payers, and patient advisors.
