About The Position

Harris is seeking a Director Research & Development for a remote role. This position requires a strong AI & Innovation Mindset, with a commitment to leveraging emerging technologies to improve workflows, solve problems, and drive business outcomes. The successful candidate will be comfortable using AI-enabled technologies as part of their everyday work while maintaining appropriate judgment, security, and compliance standards. The role involves providing technical direction, managing the technology roadmap, overseeing R&D initiatives, and leading cross-functional teams. Travel to South Korea is required 1-2 times per year.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of experience in software development.
• 5+ years of experience in project or program management.
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role.
• Bilingual English and Korean.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
• Demonstrated experience managing people and leading cross-functional team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to balance delivery accountability with people leadership responsibilities.
• Flexibility to travel for on-site visits to the R&D office as needed.
• Current, valid passport and legally eligible to travel internationally to South Korea.
• Preference will be given to candidates who can work in Korean Standard Time timezone.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and guidance for all product development and support services needed throughout the organization.
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess the effectiveness and impact of R&D initiatives and provide regular reports and updates to senior management.
• Own the technology roadmap that outlines the strategic direction for product development.
• Manage the allocation of resources, including budget, personnel, and infrastructure.
• Manage, mentor and coach R&D team members.
• Lead end-to-end project management activities across the team, from planning through delivery.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on scope, timelines, risks, and dependencies.
• Own R&D planning, execution tracking, risk management, and status reporting.
• Act as the primary interface the R&D team and the executive leadership team.
• Provide input on the R&D strategies, goals and objectives to align with business priorities and drive innovation in software development.
• Collaborate with the executive team on the financial operations of the department, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring a positive return on investment.
