About The Position

National Jewish Health, a leading respiratory hospital, is seeking an accomplished Director of Regional Development to lead fundraising efforts in California. This role involves developing and executing fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relationships, and securing major gifts. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and enjoys travel and field-based work to build long-term partnerships that support the organization's mission. The position coordinates regional efforts to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects for major, capital, endowment, annual, and event support, working with volunteers and implementing strategies for donor engagement and cultivation.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years recent and related fundraising experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
  • Supervisory or Managerial Responsibility: Manages 1 – 5 employees.
  • Travel 20 to 30% local and national travel may be required.

  • Additional training in development and non-profit management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and develops an effective staff, providing leadership, guidance, and resources.
  • Determines staff qualifications and competency, and manages the full employee lifecycle from recruitment to performance evaluation and rewards.
  • Leads the team by example and ensures staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Develops activity plans and implements strategies for donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship within an assigned region.
  • Develops strategies to meet or exceed budgeted revenue goals.
  • Cultivates donor relationships through various communication channels, including personal contact, and follows up to finalize donations.
  • Researches present and prospective donors to assess philanthropic capacity.
  • Develops new leadership for volunteer roles, such as National Jewish Trustees.
  • Develops plans for securing donations from new sources.
  • Develops program budgets and ensures compliance.
  • Documents all donor contacts in accordance with National Jewish Health Development procedures.
  • Maintains donor files and accounts.
  • Acts as a knowledgeable and positive Institutional representative.
