About The Position

The Director is a senior member of BMO’s Community Capital Solutions team, which invests the Bank’s balance sheet in conventional equity real estate funds managed by sponsor and developer clients, along with select direct real estate equity investments across the United States. The Director leads day‑to‑day value creation on designated LP investments, drives portfolio‑level performance, and mentors junior team members while partnering closely with sponsors and internal stakeholders at BMO Commercial, BMO Capital Markets and Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Governance. All investments support BMO's CRA and Public Welfare Investment objectives. The Director fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviors in all that they do.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in real estate investing/finance roles
  • Business degree (BCom/MBA); CFA/AACI/CPA
  • Experience with leading and mentoring Analysts/Associates, demonstrating a “player‑coach” mentality
  • Demonstrates the ability to drive a positive work-place culture
  • Exceptional Excel/PPT; able to step in and perform individual analysis when required
  • High detail orientation and organizational excellence
  • Use strong interpersonal skillset to form positive internal and external working relationships

Responsibilities

  • Own accountability for 25-30 conventional real estate equity fund LP investment files as the primary point person; set the agenda with partners and drive outcomes on complex situations.
  • Coordinate execution for acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing, and other strategic initiatives related to assigned files
  • Track carrying values, exposure and oversee risk analysis required to prepare decision-ready updates
  • Co-lead file completion and documentation
  • Present investment/monitoring materials to committees
  • Prepare and review portfolio forecasts, dashboards and recurring performance materials
  • Oversee quarterly reporting and valuation for portfolio
  • Synthesize insights for BMO senior stakeholders
  • Work alongside BMO Commercial, BMO Capital Markets Legal, Tax, Finance, Risk and Accounting Policy
  • Maintain oversight of project bank accounts and process capital calls
  • Selectively source and diligence new Real Estate Investment Fund opportunities
  • Track the United States real estate market across the Affordable Multifamily Residential asset class
  • Responsible for preparing select investment recommendations to the Investment Committee
  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed
