About The Position

The Director, Public Affairs for IAAPA North America is responsible for all aspects of IAAPA North America’s government relations program which supports the needs and interests of IAAPA member companies in the United States and Canada. The director monitors legislative and regulatory activity that may impact IAAPA members, informs members about those initiatives, develops strategies to address them (with input from members), gathers information, develops position documents/messaging, educates government officials, and advocates for outcomes that support the growth and development of the industry.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree or comparable experience required
  • Five to seven years of relevant experience required
  • Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory processes in the U.S. required
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills required

  • Experience or understanding of working in a trade association or other member-based organization preferred
  • Attractions industry experience preferred

  • Preferred home location for this position is Orlando. However, applicants from outside of Orlando will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and supports the association’s government relations activities with federal, state/province and local entities within the United States and Canada.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory activity that may impact the attractions industry and informing/updating IAAPA members about those activities.
  • Identifies legislative and regulatory priorities based on the impacts those initiatives may have on IAAPA members.
  • Develops government relations strategies to effectively represent IAAPA member interests to government officials.
  • Sets up and manages IAAPA member and team meetings with key policymakers.
  • Oversees the annual U.S. Advocacy Days event when IAAPA members visit congressional leaders and their staff on Capitol Hill to share their perspectives on key legislative matters.
  • Supports and assists IAAPA members as they directly engage with government officials at all levels.
  • Facilitates the development and execution of member education programs that support key advocacy activities.
  • Partners with other industry associations, coalitions, and community groups on key legislative and regulatory priorities.
  • Develops and updates federal and state/province government relations information for IAAPA members within the IAAPA North America section of the IAAPA website, through email notifications, on IAAPA News Flash, and in Funworld magazine.
  • Initiates and/or strengthens working relationships with elected officials on behalf of the attractions industry.
  • Maintains the proper profile to be the go-to resource for attractions industry information for elected officials.
  • Manages the IAAPA Political Action Committee (PAC) program in the U.S. to strengthen relationships with elected officials.
  • Attends regional industry association events to strengthen relationships with those associations, IAAPA members, and other industry professionals.
  • Serves as the IAAPA team liaison to the IAAPA North America Government Relations Subcommittee.
  • Liaises with IAAPA Global and Regional Teams to support other regional advocacy efforts.
  • Participates in and supports other IAAPA events and activities as needed.
