Director, Program Management - Digital Infrastructure

Invenergy•Chicago, IL
•$200,000 - $235,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Invenergy is seeking a Director to lead integrated energy solutions for its Digital Infrastructure business line. The role coordinates the energy and infrastructure solutions needed for large-scale data center developments, bringing together independently managed workstreams across renewable and thermal generation, geothermal, battery storage, transmission, grid integration, and data center development. Individual teams retain responsibility for their assets and workstreams; the Director is accountable for integrating them into a coordinated, executable solution. The Director will define the overall energy architecture, interfaces, sequencing, system-level decisions, and alignment with data center power requirements. Projects may range from individual facilities to multi-building campuses requiring hundreds of megawatts or more. Solutions may combine grid supply, generation, storage, transmission, and emerging technologies. This role requires substantial energy-development and program leadership experience, plus the technical judgment to understand interactions among power technologies and infrastructure systems. The Director identifies necessary analyses, challenges assumptions, reconciles competing workstreams, frames tradeoffs, and drives teams toward solutions aligned with reliability, project schedules, and capital requirements. The role will also help establish repeatable integrated energy planning and delivery approaches for Invenergy’s Digital Infrastructure portfolio. The position follows a hybrid schedule: in-office Monday through Thursday and remote on Fridays if work permits. Travel to project sites, partner locations, and other locations is required as needed. The base pay range is $200,000–$235,000 annually, with a 30–40% bonus. Additional benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k), and paid time off.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy, or a related technical discipline.
  • 12 or more years of progressive experience in energy or major infrastructure development, including significant experience developing or delivering complex power-generation, grid, storage, transmission, or integrated energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading programs involving multiple energy technologies, infrastructure workstreams, or large-load requirements.
  • Strong working knowledge of power-generation and infrastructure development, with experience across multiple technologies such as renewables, thermal generation, storage, transmission, grid infrastructure, or geothermal.
  • Ability to understand and integrate complex technical analyses without personally performing every underlying engineering calculation or study.
  • Strong understanding of energy-development processes, including interconnection, permitting, project development, capital planning, construction sequencing, operating constraints, and execution risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive outcomes across organizations where individual workstream leaders do not directly report to the role.
  • Ability to frame complex system-level issues, evaluate alternatives and tradeoffs, reconcile competing priorities, and drive timely decisions.
  • Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex technical and project information into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites, partner locations, and other locations as required.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in engineering, energy, or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing or delivering integrated energy systems, hybrid power projects, microgrids, large-load infrastructure, or multi-technology generation and storage portfolios.
  • Experience with utility-scale generation, battery storage, transmission, large-load interconnection, behind-the-meter energy systems, or grid-connected hybrid projects.
  • Experience supporting large industrial, manufacturing, mining, LNG, data center, or other energy-intensive customers where multiple infrastructure systems were integrated around a common load requirement.
  • Familiarity with data center power requirements, hyperscale infrastructure, large-load phasing, reliability expectations, and speed-to-power considerations.
  • Experience working within an independent power producer, utility, infrastructure developer, large energy user, or integrated power-solutions organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integrated energy programs supporting assigned data center developments, coordinating generation, storage, grid, and infrastructure workstreams into a unified strategy and execution plan.
  • Develop the integrated energy architecture, including the roles, phasing, and interactions of grid supply, renewables, dispatchable generation, geothermal, battery storage, transmission, and other technologies.
  • Translate data center load requirements—including capacity, phasing, ramp, reliability, redundancy, grid limits, backup strategy, and expansion needs—into coordinated requirements for energy and infrastructure teams.
  • Establish and maintain integrated program plans covering milestones, dependencies, interfaces, decision points, critical-path items, and workstream responsibilities.
  • Integrate technical analyses of load and generation profiles, dispatchability, intermittency, storage sizing, grid interactions, operating constraints, reliability, redundancy, and applicable islanding or backup scenarios.
  • Evaluate system-level alternatives and tradeoffs involving reliability, speed-to-power, capital and operating costs, execution risk, permitting, interconnection, scalability, and operational complexity.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts, gaps, and dependencies across workstreams before they affect schedules, interconnection, permitting, construction sequencing, capital planning, or energization milestones.
  • Coordinate with data center development teams to align energy strategy with site development, facility phasing, target energization dates, load growth, reliability requirements, and operational needs.
  • Coordinate assumptions across technology teams so project economics and capital planning consistently reflect the complete integrated energy solution.
  • Drive integrated risk management across energy and data center workstreams, identifying material technical, regulatory, interconnection, permitting, supply-chain, schedule, and execution risks and mitigation plans.
  • Establish program governance and decision-making processes that provide accountability across independently managed workstreams and enable timely resolution of cross-functional issues.
  • Provide concise, decision-oriented recommendations to senior leadership, communicating complex issues, business impacts, alternatives, recommended paths, and required decisions.
  • Capture lessons learned and develop repeatable integrated energy planning and delivery frameworks for the Digital Infrastructure portfolio.
