About The Position

Lightsource bp is seeking a Director, Procurement (Americas) to lead strategic procurement efforts supporting the deployment of utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar projects across the United States. This leadership role will partner closely with development, engineering, construction, finance, legal, and executive leadership to secure critical equipment and services, manage supplier relationships, and drive procurement strategies that safeguard project delivery and commercial performance. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in renewable energy procurement, global supply chains, and complex equipment negotiations, particularly within the rapidly growing BESS market.

Requirements

  • Renewable energy procurement with experience in global sourcing and international supplier negotiations
  • Deep knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) technologies and procurement strategies
  • Strong understanding of PV equipment including modules, inverters, trackers, racking systems, and HV equipment
  • Experience with market intelligence, category strategy, and supply chain risk analysis
  • Familiarity with international logistics and import/export requirements
  • Strong commercial negotiation and contract management capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships across suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Experience managing procurement for technically complex equipment and infrastructure
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work within a global, cross‑functional organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM, engineering, business, or related field
  • 10–12+ years of professional experience with 5–7 years in procurement leadership roles
  • 5+ years of direct experience with utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Procurement or supply chain experience within renewable energy, infrastructure, or EPC environments
  • Experience supporting large-scale projects (200–1000 MW) including batteries, substations, and high‑voltage equipment
  • Track record of executing multi‑year framework agreements with global suppliers

Nice To Haves

  • MBA preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CSCP, or CIPS preferred
  • Spanish or Mandarin is a plus
  • Experience with datacenter power solutions, natural gas turbines, or hybrid energy systems is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies that optimize pricing, delivery, quality, and risk mitigation across large-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Lead procurement initiatives supporting Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) while also supporting solar (PV) and emerging energy infrastructure projects.
  • Drive category strategies and market intelligence to navigate global supply chain dynamics, policy changes, and geopolitical risks.
  • Lead RFP processes, supplier evaluations, and commercial negotiations for critical project equipment and services.
  • Negotiate complex contracts for battery storage systems, PV equipment, high‑voltage components, and related infrastructure.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with global suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Partner with internal teams including development, engineering, finance, legal, insurance, power marketing, and construction to support project execution.
  • Assist with financial close processes and external diligence related to procurement scopes.
  • Facilitate execution of NDAs, Letters of Intent, and commercial agreements with key counterparties.
  • Monitor equipment procurement schedules and coordinate delivery to project sites.
  • Support safe harbor equipment procurement strategies related to ITC/PTC qualification.
  • Work closely with HSQE and compliance teams to evaluate suppliers and ensure safe, quality project execution.
