About The Position

This position will initially be located with the Devolution Secretariat and will transition to the new department responsible for Crown lands, internal waters, and resource development effective April 1, 2027. This shift supports a broader realignment to strengthen stewardship of mineral development, land management, and freshwater resources under a single mandate. The successful candidate will play a key role in this transition and in establishing the new department, including supporting early implementation and onboarding of future staff. Applicants should be prepared for a dynamic environment with both the opportunities and challenges of organizational transformation. Reporting to the Executive Director, Devolution, the Director, Policy Planning and Communications (Director) provides overall leadership for departmental policy, planning, legislation, research, and communications. The role ensures alignment with the Government of Nunavut’s mandate and the Department’s Vision, Mission, Mandate, Goals and Objectives. The Director supports the Minister and Senior Management by coordinating policy development, preparing briefing materials and ministerial correspondence, and managing Cabinet‑related documentation. The position also oversees departmental evaluation, program planning information, and internal and external communications.

Requirements

  • Leadership experience in policy planning, legislation, research, and communications.
  • Experience in coordinating policy development and preparing briefing materials.
  • Experience managing Cabinet-related documentation.
  • Experience overseeing departmental evaluation and program planning information.
  • Experience in internal and external communications.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with organizational transformation.
  • Understanding of the Nunavut Devolution Agreement and its implications.
