About The Position

Tyto Athene is seeking a practitioner-architect to lead the Platforms & Infrastructure pillar within its CAIO directorate. This role is responsible for engineering the autonomous infrastructure substrate that supports the AI-era Federal and DoD mission. The focus is on creating self-healing networks, agentic operations, and hybrid cloud capabilities that operate at machine speed across different classification levels. The position involves reimagining every layer of infrastructure, including network, cloud, ITSM, data transport, and container orchestration, with AI agents as primary components. The Director will define the technical vision, architect the platform spine in collaboration with other teams, operationalize AI and agentic automation across the stack, act as a technical evangelist for customers, and build a multi-disciplinary team.

Requirements

  • 12+ years building and operating large-scale enterprise infrastructure, with 5+ years in DoD, IC, or Federal mission environments.
  • 8+ years of hands-on platform engineering experience across at least two of the following: cloud and hybrid cloud architecture, network automation and SDN, Kubernetes and container orchestration, ITSM and IT operations at scale, data transport and resilient communications.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience integrating AI and agentic automation into infrastructure operations.
  • 5+ years operating in IL5/IL6 environments with deep fluency in cleared cloud (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government), accreditation workflows, and multi-classification operations.
  • Deep fluency in NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, FISMA, the CISA/DoD Zero Trust Reference Architectures, and the post-quantum cryptographic transition timeline.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and retaining senior platform engineers.
  • Ability to balance internal capability development with strategic vendor partnerships.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with platform engineering and agentic operations convergence.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance (SECRET-cleared candidates with clearable backgrounds considered with active sponsorship).
  • Experience building or operating systems that span classification boundaries, hyperscaler boundaries, or partner-federation boundaries.
  • Experience engineering cryptographic agility into infrastructure.
  • Experience building reference implementations, validating vendor claims, and breaking things to understand them in lab environments.

Responsibilities

  • Define and socialize the technical vision for Tyto's self-healing networks, agentic operations, and the Federation Gateway.
  • Collaborate with TALON engineers, Cyber, and Quantum pillars to deliver an integrated platform substrate.
  • Drive AI and agentic automation across every layer of the infrastructure stack.
  • Act as the technical face of Tyto's platform capability for senior DoD, IC, and Federal customers.
  • Build and develop a team of multi-disciplinary engineers.
