Director, Platform Engineering

Aline
•$170,000 - $180,000

About The Position

Aline is seeking a Director of Platform Engineering to own the shared infrastructure foundation that supports its connected platform. The role brings infrastructure, CI/CD, and reliability practices together as one platform engineering function, enabling teams across the company to build, ship, and operate software with confidence. The Director will own Aline’s multi-tenant Azure infrastructure strategy, including consolidation of legacy tenants, modernization and operation of legacy workloads, infrastructure-as-code and configuration management, CI/CD, production reliability, engineering tools, identity and access infrastructure, and cloud cost optimization. The role will partner with Security and Compliance leadership to meet requirements for sensitive resident and clinical data. It will also build and lead a platform/infrastructure engineering team and evaluate practices and tools that reduce friction for engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading a platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE function; experience building or scaling the function is preferred over only operating an existing one.
  • Deep hands-on background in cloud infrastructure, preferably Azure, as well as infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and CI/CD.
  • Experience with Terraform and Ansible.
  • Hands-on experience with legacy platforms, especially VM-based workloads and Windows Server environments, and the judgment to keep legacy systems stable and secure while migrating them to cloud-native approaches.
  • Strong track record in production reliability, including incident response, observability, and reducing operational toil.
  • Experience consolidating or migrating infrastructure across multiple environments or tenants; multi-tenant SaaS experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work as both a technical working leader and a people leader, including building and developing a team.
  • Experience partnering closely with Security and Compliance functions; experience with sensitive or regulated data is preferred.
  • Comfort operating in a lean, fast-moving mid-market environment and owning outcomes end-to-end.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a multi-product or multi-tenant SaaS company that has grown through acquisition or consolidation.
  • Azure experience.
  • Experience in an environment handling sensitive or regulated data.
  • Experience in a multi-tenant SaaS context.

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-tenant Azure infrastructure strategy, including consolidation of multiple legacy tenants onto a single, well-governed foundation.
  • Operate and gradually modernize the legacy estate, including VM-based and Windows Server workloads, and manage the transition from legacy to modern platforms.
  • Lead infrastructure-as-code and configuration management practices using Terraform and Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
  • Own production reliability, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and practices that reduce failures and recovery time.
  • Drive GitHub Enterprise consolidation and the broader engineering tooling strategy.
  • Lead identity and access infrastructure strategy, including migration to modern identity platforms.
  • Partner with Security and Compliance leadership to ensure infrastructure practices meet requirements for sensitive resident and clinical data.
  • Own cloud cost strategy and optimization while balancing performance and reliability with infrastructure spend.
  • Build and lead a platform/infrastructure engineering team, including hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers into senior and staff-level contributors.
  • Evaluate and introduce platform engineering practices and tools, such as feature flagging and developer self-service, to reduce friction for engineering teams.
