About The Position

The Director of Facilities Management (or Director of Plant Operations) is responsible for the 24/7 operation, safety, and maintenance of the physical environment for residents and staff. This role ensures that the facility remains compliant with strict healthcare-specific regulations while managing budgets, staff, and long-term capital projects. The position requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. The Director must be able to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. A deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems is essential, as is the ability to respond decisively during emergencies and resolve complex infrastructure issues under pressure. Proficiency in budget planning, cost-containment strategies, and analyzing financial data is also required. The Director ensures the facility adheres to all federal, state, and local codes, including CMS, OSHA, NFPA (Life Safety Code), and state Department of Public Health standards. This role is also responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating maintenance and environmental services staff.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and / or boards of directors.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems
  • Proficiency in budget planning, cost-containment strategies, and analyzing financial data.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or Business Administration, or an Associate’s degree with significant experience.
  • 5–10 years of facilities operations experience, with at least 3–5 years in a management or supervisory role.

Responsibilities
