About The Position

This position manages and supervises daily operations of the pharmacy, ensuring current licensure/registrations and supervising the preparation and distribution of medications, including clinical trial medications, and the maintenance of patient profiles. The role involves staffing and scheduling pharmacy personnel, supervising staff including discipline and adherence to policies, developing and maintaining a department policy and procedure manual, interviewing and hiring all pharmacy staff, and conducting performance evaluations. The Director will oversee the pharmacy drug budget, establish the drug formulary, review drug purchasing contracts, and supervise accurate billing of pharmaceuticals. Additionally, this role oversees the accurate preparation and labeling of medications, ensuring proper techniques and supplies are utilized for IV admixtures. The Director is responsible for pharmacy compliance with clinical trials and sponsors, including FDA, CALGB, NSABP, and RTOG, and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, securing and renewing licenses and registrations. A key responsibility is providing physicians, staff, and patients with appropriate information concerning therapeutic actions, interactions, adverse effects, and formulary status of medications. Participation in continuing education programs is required for license renewals and to maintain updated service.

Responsibilities

  • Staffs and schedules pharmacy personnel.
