About The Position

The team supports our hospital, which is licensed for 255 beds, as well as opportunities throughout our service line including ambulatory, community mental health, crisis services, and partnerships across teams. As part of an academic medical center, the program hosts residents, and ongoing potential to collaborate with PITT and in a variety of research and quality projects create robust opportunities. The Director will lead pharmacy operations across hospital sites, ensuring compliant, safe, and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care. Drives strategic initiatives including automation, resource optimization, financial management, and formulary oversight while developing and supporting staff. Collaborates across clinical areas and committees to enhance patient care, and contributes to education and research initiatives serving diverse patient populations across multiple specialties.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D.) from an accredited school of pharmacy required.
  • 5 years of pharmacy leadership experience (inpatient preferred) of progressive complexity OR HSPAL residency plus 2 years of pharmacy leadership experience (inpatient preferred) of progressive complexity required.
  • Must be a licensed Pharmacist
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in pharmacy administration or healthcare management (MS, MBA, MHA) preferred.
  • PGY-1 postgraduate pharmacy residency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily pharmacy operations aligned with patient care needs, strategic goals, and regulatory standards (ASHP, TJC, state/federal laws)
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies; maintain safe medication oversight and distribution systems
  • Recruit, coach, and develop managers, pharmacists, and technicians to maintain a high-performing team
  • Guide implementation and optimization of pharmacy systems and automation (workflow, prescribing safety, inventory, compliance, financial reporting)
  • Optimize operational resources (FTEs, medication use) and analyze utilization to drive efficiency across service areas
  • Lead change initiatives aligned with hospital/service line goals
  • Drive continuous improvement through customer feedback and process enhancements
  • Model professional, responsive service to physicians, nurses, patients, and staff
  • Foster a positive department image through respectful communication and partnership
  • Complete required reporting, HR management duties, and continuing education to maintain licensure
  • Adhere to system-wide competencies and perform other assigned duties
