Summary of Position: We are seeking a hands-on, solutions-oriented Director, People to support our U.S. employee population split between offices in Los Angeles, San Franscisco and a distribution center in Pacoima by fostering a positive employee experience, ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies, and strengthening management effectiveness across the organization. This role serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, providing guidance on employee relations matters, performance management, coaching, and workforce development. The Director, People will lead core People operations while partnering closely with business leaders to promote a high-performing, compliant, and engaged workplace culture.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant employee relations and business partner experience.
  • Experience in a fast paced, consumer facing organization is critical.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace investigations and managing complex employee relations matters.
  • Proven ability to coach managers and leaders through performance, engagement, and organizational challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to build credibility and trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Experience supporting HR operations, HRIS systems, payroll, benefits administration, and employee lifecycle processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including workplace concerns, investigations, conflict resolution, performance management, and corrective action.
  • Partner with managers to address employee issues consistently, fairly, and in compliance with company policies and applicable employment laws.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
  • Ensure consistent application of company policies and employment practices across the U.S. employee population.
  • Support leave administration, accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and other statutory employment obligations.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture while minimizing organizational risk.
  • Partner with and legal counsel as needed on complex employee relations matters and employment law issues.
  • Coach and advise managers on effective leadership practices, employee engagement, performance management, and talent development.
  • Provide guidance on employee performance issues, feedback conversations, career development, and succession planning.
  • Coordinate and administer annual performance review processes, ensuring timely completion, manager readiness, and employee participation.
  • Support managers through organizational change, team dynamics, and workforce challenges.
  • Partner with business leaders to strengthen management capabilities and build high-performing teams.
  • Promote consistent leadership practices that align with company values, policies, and business objectives.
  • Support the development of a strong manager pipeline through ongoing coaching and development initiatives.
  • Support confidential strategic business initiatives by assessing organizational impacts, preparing leaders for change, and ensuring workforce planning, employee communications, and people processes are effectively managed during periods of organizational evolution.
  • Partner closely with the Senior Director, People to support the successful rollout and adoption of global People policies, programs, and best practices across the U.S. employee population.
  • Support the administration of 360-degree feedback programs, including communications, manager guidance, and follow-up activities.
  • Assist with employee engagement surveys, driving participation, analyzing results, and partnering with leaders on action planning and follow-through.
  • Support employee recognition programs that reinforce company values and foster a culture of appreciation and engagement.
  • Support the planning and execution of leadership development programs, learning initiatives, and manager capability-building efforts.
  • Work with the Global People Team to continuously improve HR processes and procedures to enhance the employee experience and operational effectiveness.
  • Support reporting and workforce data needs for business leaders and executive management.
  • Ensure employee data integrity and compliance with recordkeeping requirements.
  • Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local employment laws to ensure compliance across U.S. operations.
  • Review, maintain, and update employee policies, procedures, and handbook content as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with leave administration, accommodations, wage and hour requirements, and other statutory employment obligations.
  • Maintain appropriate HR controls, documentation practices, and confidentiality standards.
  • Support audits and compliance reviews as required.
