About The Position

Sanity.io is seeking a Director, People Operations to scale and enhance the operational foundation of its People function. This role involves managing the HR tech stack, compliance, people data, and employee experience. The objective is to leverage AI to automate transactional tasks, allowing the team to focus on strategic initiatives. The position is part of the People team, reports to the Chief People Officer, and includes leadership of a small team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of HR/People Operations experience, including demonstrated leadership of a team or function.
  • Track record of embedding automation and AI into People lifecycle work.
  • Experience managing PEO relationships (e.g., Rippling, TriNet) as well as Global EORs (e.g., OysterHR, Deel).
  • Deep knowledge of employment law and HR compliance across multiple states.
  • Hands-on experience owning and optimizing modern HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, Rippling, or similar), including vendor evaluation and implementation.
  • A track record of building scalable processes and programs from scratch.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to translate complex topics into plain language.
  • High integrity and sound judgment when handling sensitive employee information.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward action.

Responsibilities

  • Lead People Operations strategy and execution, including the strategy, architecture, and evolution of People Operations, technology, and analytics.
  • Design and implement scalable, auditable, and durable end-to-end workflows for hiring, HRIS management, and the employee lifecycle.
  • Own the operating model for People Operations, ensuring efficiency and scalability across geographies and headcount.
  • Manage and optimize PEO relationships, overseeing payroll and benefits execution and vendor accountability.
  • Drive compliance and risk management, ensuring HR policies are current, audit-readiness, and operational oversight.
  • Own and evolve the HR tech stack, including HRIS and connected platforms, focusing on reducing manual work and improving data accuracy.
  • Develop a roadmap for systems, reporting, integrations, automation, and AI-enabled workflows.
  • Own headcount reporting, attrition analysis, and core metrics for leadership.
  • Build and lead a high-performing People Operations team, creating systems and programs for scalability.
  • Develop and maintain HR policies that align with Sanity's values and evolve with the business.
  • Act as a trusted partner to employees and managers, navigating complex people situations with empathy and discretion.
