About The Position

The Director, Materials Engineering Group, is a senior strategic leader responsible for the overall vision, ownership, and management of all material structures and specifications for CBI’s Beer Division. This individual leads a team of Managers, each accountable for specific material categories, ensuring cohesive and aligned material strategies across the organization. In this role, the Director sets the direction for the development and continuous improvement of Packaging material structures and specifications to support innovative product and packaging initiatives. The Director partners closely with leadership Teams of CBI’s Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Commercial areas, fostering collaboration to guarantee that all Packaging materials meet or exceed performance expectations throughout the supply chain and ultimately in our customers’ hands. The Director, Materials Engineering Group, plays a pivotal role in shaping the company’s material engineering capabilities, ensuring sustained excellence and innovation in how our products are packaged and delivered to customers.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and has experience in leading cross functional teams.
  • Excellent written communications skills and the ability to document system procedures in an understandable format.
  • Experience with developing and presenting data and power point presentations to senior levels of company management.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent attention to detail on multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Able to identify and analyze problems, recommending and implementing flexible and creative solutions.
  • Excellent spreadsheet, project and word-processing skills.
  • Experience with projects within a high-speed packaging environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and manage multiple tasks on projects, ensuring completion to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and be able to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Gear (PPG) for the production areas (i.e. ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, long sleeves, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest).

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Packaging Materials Engineering Managers, fostering professional growth and ensuring effective oversight of all material specification activities.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine the overall Packaging materials engineering strategy to support business objectives, innovation, and new product/packaging launches.
  • Champion collaboration with internal stakeholders, including Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, R&D, and Commercial teams, to align material initiatives with operational and business needs.
  • Proactively identify, collaboratively evaluate with all stakeholders, and curate innovative Packaging material concepts from internal and external sources, and develop compelling business cases and presentations to bring forward these ideas to Commercial teams for consideration in future product launches and marketing initiatives.
  • Oversee the development, validation, and implementation of new and existing Packaging material structures and specifications to drive superior product performance across the entire supply chain.
  • Establish and enforce governance around Packaging material standards, regulatory compliance (FDA, ISO, environmental sustainability), and best practices throughout the organization.
  • Partner with QA leadership to ensure rigorous analysis and resolution of consumer complaints and Packaging material failures, including root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in high-speed Packaging materials, evaluating and integrating relevant advancements to enhance CBI’s material portfolio.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing Packaging material suppliers, Packaging equipment manufacturers, and industry partners, along with developing new relationships, to drive innovation, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Direct cost-reduction projects that optimize Packaging material spend while maintaining or improving quality and supply chain performance.
  • Lead benchmarking efforts to ensure CBI’s Packaging materials and specifications are competitive and aligned with industry best practices, especially regarding cost and sustainability.
  • Ensure annual and regular performance audits are conducted on production lines and at retail, using findings to drive continuous Packaging material and process improvements.
  • Oversee and report on the progress of all initiatives related to updates and changes in Packaging material structures and specifications, providing clear communication to executive leadership.
  • Provide on-site support at CBI breweries as needed to address Packaging material performance issues and ensure rapid resolution.
  • Ensure all new Packaging materials and suppliers undergo rigorous qualification testing and meet performance standards before approval and implementation.
