About The Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, is seeking an academic Emergency Medicine attending physician to serve as Director of Oncologic Emergencies Research to join our outstanding faculty in Boston, MA. The candidate will be appointed to the faculty of Harvard Medical School at an academic rank commensurate with experience. As part of the upcoming collaboration between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Beth Israel Lahey Health, we are seeking a dynamic academic Emergency Medicine physician with expertise or strong research interest in oncologic emergencies and cancer-related acute care to lead this strategic research initiative. This role sits within a system-wide commitment to advancing cancer care and provides a unique opportunity to build a nationally recognized research program in oncologic emergencies, supported by strong institutional alignment, multidisciplinary collaboration, and expanded opportunities for epidemiologic, clinical and translational investigation. The Director will develop a research program focused on studying cancer patients presenting to the Emergency Department with acute illness, including complications of malignancy, immunotherapy-related toxicities, and treatment-related adverse events. This position is designed for an individual who aims to build a nationally recognized research portfolio in oncologic emergency care, with opportunities to develop clinical pathways, lead multidisciplinary collaborations, and secure extramural funding to support high-impact investigation. BIDMC and Harvard Medical School provide a rich research environment with robust infrastructure, including dedicated clinical research staff, statistical and database support. Strong collaborations with oncology, critical care, and translational science programs provide a unique platform to advance this emerging field. Requirements

  • MD or equivalent medical degree.
  • Board certification (or eligibility) in Emergency Medicine.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical, translational, basic science, or public health research
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative spirit.
  • Eligibility for Massachusetts medical licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Execute a productive research program in oncologic emergencies as evidenced by academic productivity (publications) and extramural grant funding
  • Collaborate with oncologists and other specialists to advance research in the field
  • Contribute to the department’s academic and strategic goals through clinical service, scholarly engagement, and departmental leadership opportunities.
